It's not that 60Hz isn't fast enough, since this is Passive 3D 60Hz is OK as each eye 540 vertical lines are painted every other frame odd & even and the human eye pieces it back together unlike active which has to have at least 120Hz bc it paints both right & left eyes simultaneously. The problem is that LG LIED and said these sets were 120Hz capable when they aren't! This is a NEW PROBLEM industry wide, the problem started appearing this year in the big brands. For LG the 120Hz Tru-motion panels like my LD550 from a couple years back, with Tru-motion anti-judder off the panel refreshes @ 60Hz. Tru-motion was explained as a feature that you turned on to enable 120Hz. That wasn't hidden or un-disclosed. The panel operates at 60Hz unless or until you enable the tru-motion. The PROBLEM is read below what HDGuru found. ...Unfortunately, the G2 for whether it's seems to also be FALSELY listed as a 120Hz Tru-motion TV that is NOT capable of 120Hz. Too bad they didn't throw the Google TV apps into the 7600.
BUT THAT'S not what happened to several models of LG & other makers this year. HDGuru calls out the LG 6700 for advertising 120Hz true Motion when the SET is physically incapable of doing 120Hz. Then when they called LG out on it being only 60Hz LG gave a blow-off response and then eventually released a firmware "update" that created an anti-judder setting however, it did not enable 120Hz it was more of the lie cover-up-smoke-&-Mirrors B.S. That's not a mislabeling, or the end user not understanding what/how anti-judder implementation operates, prior to this year on some specific models that is. http://hdguru.com/lg-55lm6700-hdt...ated/8281/ But that's not why people are jumping on LG and other makers this year. This is "simulated" as they use a 60hz panel with a scanning backlight to create 120hz or 240hz effect...Panasonic and Toshiba do the same thing Where as Sony and Samsung have a tru 120hz( or 240hz) panel that is actually overlaying multiple frames Depending on your taste..you could say the simulated is as good as the actual...?? However the fact remains it is simulated.....and I might assume that the simulated is cheaper to produce |

#1 this is not an LG only problem, it's a Samsung, Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, Vizio... problem: http://hdguru.com/beware-of-phony...ates/7726/ People often quite incorrectly have a this brand is better than that brand bias when each model & each technology, frankly each set needs to weighed against the others. Their is nothing inferior or "cheap" about LGs top of the line TVs compared to Samsung, Panasonic, or Sony and many of their middle lines just like other makers offer good bang for the buck to average users. All TV makers all have hits & misses and good models/lines\tiers and bad ones. Comparing a middle level from one brand and implying it's a fair comparison to higher level in a competing brand is skewing things to fit a predetermined narrative. However, in this case LG tried to pull the wool over customer's eyes by attempting to say a few models had tru-motion when they didn't and to "compensate" they figured they could try and pass off the black frame insertion as essential the same thing' when it's not. BAD LG for the models it tried to get away with this on in 2012. #2 Up until this year LG has no TVs that say 120Hz that don't deliver True 120Hz Output, my LD550 does a great job with it. It's got it uses especially fun in games, but it often gives me a queasy feeling on content that produces the S.O.E. "Where as Sony and Samsung have a tru 120hz( or 240hz) panel that is actually overlaying multiple frames" #3 "This is "simulated" as they use a 60hz panel with a scanning backlight to create 120hz or 240hz effect...Panasonic and Toshiba do the same thing" That's incorrect. They cannot "simulate" 120Hz ...or 240Hz by attempting (in many cases incorrectly because of the limitations on Lower - middle end TVs with edge lit LED arrays) to actually have a 'black frame insertion.' This is actually a proven technique, or optical trick to help arrest blur that LCD panels can/suffer from. However for arguments sake even if they could do this correctly, it does nothing to change the output from 60Hz, and that's where LG went wrong - well that plus the attempt to cover & shut up people by adding in firmware an anti-judder option that is useless - because again the panel is stuck at 60Hz not way around it. I want to be clear this is not by any means all LG LCD models, nor is it all Sony or all Samsung models that are making dubious claims based with numbers & data that consumers know as buzz words 120, 240...by now giving them new made up jargon terms, when people were used to FPS, or Refresh Rate/Hz. And yes, they did this because you are quite correct it is cheaper to eliminate the circuit called Motion Estimation/Motion Compensation needed to accomplish the interpolated frames taking 24FPs or 30FPS to 120Hz output. I would not classify this as a problem..if you like the picture its not an issue Its just a misstatement by LG While my Samsung B8000 advertised a 240 hz panel...and it is a true 240hz panel as I said before Sony and Samsung are the only the only manufacturers with a true 240hz panel Now...that CMR that they use now is BS I am more focused on the amount of frames the panel actually can insert to interpolate motion Not how they can "simulate" lighting and make a simulated effect and to be clear...i have never thought LG did nearly as good of a job as Sony and samsung with motion interpolation They were late to the party offering it..by two years...and then it took them another year before they offered separate blur and dejudder adjustment The LE8500 I have is a good TV...not nearly the TV as the Sony XBR was of the same time frame...but it was 50% of the price of the Sony as well I dont think the top of the line LG's have every competed with the best They have been well priced and a good value..but never quite as good people raved about the LH90, LE8500 and LX9500 full array...but they always had flaws and not up to the level of the Samsung 8500 and Sony XBR full array LED's of the same period...and not nearly as expensive either On the plasma side....they have never been able to compete in black level or color( with models like the 950 and 9700) with the best from Pioneer( to start) and then after that the 8000 series from samsung or the VT from Panasonic and again..not nearly as expensive either Last edited by turnne; 02-10-2013 at 01:44 PM.. |
