Women aren't morons? You want to make a lego play set for girls, go for it. Don't call it a build if it's not a damn build. It has nothing to do with being marketed for girls. Have you seen 'MODULAR BUILD, EASY START' on lego sets? Yeah, well since that is what the hell the friends line is why don't they say that? You know what it DOES say? Building toy. Go buy a modular build easy start and tell me how much fun you have building that boat hull that is 100% complete and intact. Hell do a stop motion vid of all the fun you have pulling it out of the box and being about 45% done with your "build". Let me know when you up that vid, can't wait to thumb it up! Best 50$ you ever spend I bet!! Last edited by orphicdragon; 01-26-2013 at 06:26 AM.. Donation is the Alpha not the Omega Lifetime member of the Daisybeetle fan club. My daughter got Lego Friends for Christmas and her 6th birthday this past week. She plays with my Lego sets and has a blast. She was enthralled to get sets "of her own". Her favorite parts: the small intricate pieces albeit spoons, forks, hair dryer, and what have you. When she plays with my mini figs I have on my desk, her favorite thing to do is swap out the accessories, whether it be the woman zoo keeper's monkey, the female snow boarder's board and helmet, rockstar's guitar, or the gangster's guns. She got the Barbie Dreamhouse too. Her favorite part (beside the elevator): the little household items, again spoons, forks, pop cans, bottles, etc. She loves setting them up and putting them "in their places". Potential therapy for OCD is in her future, I'm sure. I remember as a kid getting Star Wars figures, Legos and Playmobile sets: best parts were the little pieces. You have to remember Lego is primarily aiming these set at kids, not us as adult collectors. Women were barking that they didn't make any Lego sets for girls. So they tried (even though you say they didn't), and low and behold, here come the women activists that these Lego sets stereotype women. They're in a no-win situation. Same thing with this Muslim complaint....people are way too sensitive these days and need to grow skins. Sticks and stones.... I agree with you 100% on the "modular build sets" like the boat hulls...but don't think that's limited to only the Friends line. It's a cost move on their part....cheaper to put in one big lump of plastic rather than 100 little ones. But remember, these are marketed to younger kids. Do I disagree with them putting ALL the Lego sets in numbered bags? Yep. The kids should suffer like I had to with 400 pieces sitting in a big pile, and you're looking for that 1x1 for an hour only to finally figure out you put it somewhere incorrectly already. But I'm not the CEO of Lego, so they're not changing that anytime soon. As for the video, I wish I had video taped my 23 year old niece "helping" my daughter put the house together last week. She never had Legos as a kid and she "overtook" the project. When she was done she told her boyfriend "I want Legos for my birthday!". So there are some ladies out there that can appreciate what Lego's doing with the Friends line. Last edited by RickyRapp; 01-26-2013 at 08:46 AM.. |

A hat, a bag, 4 guns, a pair of binoculars, a helmet, a parrot for his shoulder... The friends line is actually pretty neat, but I didn't realize it was a modular thing. I picked one up to put together with a friends sick kid and we had that thing fully assembled in like 20 minutes. Friends and I will be just fine when they make it clear that it's the bigger chunks and not the build from scratch that is lego awesomeness. I went to Walmart bought the Milennium Falcon and we spent around 3 hours putting that together before she cracked the friends box back open and started that on her own when I left for home. The bag thing...yeah. Kids today are spoiled. They even have that little graphic at the front telling them not to dump the pieces on the carpet. |

This set is strictly about the minifigs, though the final build isn't bad. It's a lot more interesting when you combine the minis from the desert skiff. |

i'm not a big fan of Friends at all but i do see the appeal. with that in mind, and always an eye to saving money in the future, i've been buying sets here and there on sale or clearance (on the odd occasion i've been that lucky) in case my 1 yo daughter shows an interest. right now she is intent on grabbing big brother's Lego Cars 2 cars upon which the "injas" like to ride so she can most likely eat them.
