"allows you to watch TV from any computer on your network" - but I want to watch TV on my TV's?
I see comments people have done away with rented cable tuner boxes, so I'm assuming this device will let me do that. I'm sick of paying comcast ridiculous rental fees for hd-dvr boxes for 3 tv's. I have several pc's in my house, but only one that has win 7 (ultimate 64bit, if that matters), the rest are all c2duo machines running xp-pro. I have 1 tv upstairs, 2 downstairs, and one I have sitting unused because I refuse to fork over more $$ for a 4th rented box. I do not have network cable anywhere in the house outside one bedroom where the cable modem is connected, but I do have a wifi network setup with a cisco e2000 broadcasting upstairs & another e2000 set up as a bridge downstairs. I have an old wrt-54g not hooked up to anything I could use if needed, and a wii downstairs fwiw. So, what would I do to actually make it so I could use the silicon dust (or something else if this isn't going to work for me), get the same channels etc. as I get now (comcast hd lineup with showtime & hbo) and turn in the 3 rented hd-dvr boxes I have now? I like the on screen channel guide & on demand, do those features stop working under an hd homerun setup? If there's a 'for idiots' guide someplace on these things, that's probably what I need. Sheesh, I hate paying stupid comcast for rental boxes - wth they charge extra for hd channel lineup, then force me to rent their box so I can see the channels I pay extra for? |

Hdhomerun $140 Xboxes for each room...used around $100 each or get a banned boxes for around $50 I couldn't get WiFi to work so I recommend wiring. You will lose on demand but you can watch it through the xfinity website. The Windows media center guide is a whole lot better than the Comcast guide IMO |

If you can't/don't want to run Eithernet, but have existing coaxial network (Cable TV) in the house, you can use MoCA (google it). The least expensive route is to use Verizon FiOS routers that you can find on ebay for under $20 shipped. They are easily converted to MoCA adapters. If you don't feel like messing with a Verizon router (5 minute job) you can pay $200 for a MoCA adapter for every location in your house. Another option is powerline, but it will depend on how you circuit breaker box is set up. The guide to set up WMC 7 is available from the maker of WMC, Microsoft here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-U.../set-it-up It literally takes 10 minutes to set up you own whole house DVR system. Also, www.thegreenbutton.tv is a great place to read up on what worked for other people. You can have up to 6 TV's connected to the system at once, following Microsoft's guidelines. You can add more, but only 6 can be on at the same time. You just have to turn off the others. Your only out of pocket to the cable TV provider is the rental fee for the CableCard, which many providers offer for free, and also offer discount for "brining your own equipment" http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/0...r-live-tv/ Edit: If your TV supports DLNA, then you don't need Roku, you just get it on TV directly. Right now it is only available as beta. Last edited by blueiedgod; 01-29-2013 at 09:11 AM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost 5 TV's in the house with Verizon FiOS and we only pay $3.99/month to connect all 5 of them. Thanks to Ceton InfiniTV4 and CableCard.

just to add... time warner in most (all?) regions has the copy protection flags set that makes the dnla to xbmc streaming, basic functionality in any other software other than WMC, and the ease of moving recordings to other devices completely useless or not possible as everything is set to "copy once". |

I wanted to chime and and say that I'm a seasoned IT pro and this device was still a nightmare to set up. And up until the most recent "stable" release, the firmwares were terrible. Lots of TCP overloading, signal problems, etc. Newest release isn't perfect but its far better.
Unless you are an IT expert and have at least 10 hours to spend fighting with the device / cable provider / wmc / copy protection schemes this is not the device for you. I am now a happy user of my homerunprime but it was no picnic getting here. You have been warned. Great rebate Companies:
Patriot Memory (4myrebate.com): 6 Weeks Tiger Direct (4myrebate): 3 weeks Rain-X (in house): 3 weeks BAD BAD MAIL IN REBATE COMPANIES: Xigmatek 26 weeks, 14 emails, 2 phone calls (finally received) NZXT 20 weeks, 4 phone calls, still no rebate |
