Alright...here goes nothing...

Hopefully I won't cause an electrical fire or fry the entire electrical system of my car.
Get a wiring harness adapter for your specific make/model of vehicle. You can wire everything outside of the vehicle in your workshop, and basically plug 'n play after. Head units are super easy to install, even if you don't know much of what you're doing, so you should be fine Smilie

How much does a shop normally charge for installing just the head piece? I could probably do it myself if it's too much.
Just order a harness and mounting kit for your specific vehicle. Try to stay away from the universal kit, it works but is an eyesore. Then grab a set of wire strippers, heat wrap, solder, and electrical tape and attach the new harness to the radio in the comfort of your warm home. Dont just twist your wires together and throw some electrical tape around them. vibration does loosen crappy wiring jobs. In most cases you can even pre mount the stereo into the mounting plate before even going outside.

Pull out your old stereo surround being careful not to break clips, you will need a Phillips or Torx driver in most cases, also a small flathead to pry and remove wire clips. Don't forget the antenna line! It's usually short. Do not cut any wires. With a stereo like this the existing harness will power it fine no need to run a line to the fuse box.

TEST NEW STEREO BEFORE FINAL MOUNTING IS DONE.

Slide in your new stereo into its new home. Resecure surround and your good to go.

Out of car work, 20 minutes. in car work, about 20 minutes

Peak power means squat. RMS Power is the true wattage.

Rather take the Kenwood deal for $10 more with good reviews.
Higher peak usually coincides with higher RMS. The one he picked has USB, too.
However, that being said, I don't think I ever could bring myself to buy something made by "Boss Audio" or similar.

Stereo shop near me always advertises "bring in your own stereo, we'll install it for $20.00"
i had the same company install a expensive Pioneer stereo, took them about 20 minutes max. so if you know what your doing should be relatively easy. i'm too lazy.

22W RMS, good power. Kenwood is a great audio manufacturer to boot.

Take my advice from someone whos been there. GET A VEHICLE SPECIFIC WIRING HARNESS ADAPTER!!! This will allow you to add the aftermarket head unit without destroying/cutting into your existing wiring harness.

It's a really easy (and rewarding) afternoon project to install your own car stereo. Unless you have a "premium audio" option on your car, odds are even a simple head unit like this one will sound excellent.

Pioneers and Kenwoods make great radios even on the lowest modals. It's really up to you as in what style you like most. Kenwoods are normally easier with the menu controls. Pioneer really has an odd way of setting it's menus up.

Is this a good deal if I just need to replace speakers of my LX470?

If the photo is accurate, the receiver is a KDC-108. The PKG-MP18 number appears to be the walmart-specific package with the speakers. I have an older version of that receiver in one of my cars, my truck actually. It's been going strong for 6 years now, driving a high-end system with big amplifiers and top of the line speakers. MP3 receivers were still new back when I bought it so it was quite expensive at the time.

It should make someone an excellent receiver that will stand the test of time, unlike a lot of the "boss audio" and similar stuff that some people are linking to. My other cars though have much nicer Pioneer receivers with 4 volt outputs and parametric EQ, my local Target was clearing them out for $35 and I bought every one they had lol.

No, because your rear speakers are probably 6x9. Unless you don't even use your rear speakers, then I'd recommend getting some decent 6x9 since if you get cheap speakers, it can sound crapper than OEM, which will probably true since you have a Lexus.

No usb support on that Kenwood :/ That BOSS bundle is seriously weak. I would stick to Pioneer or Kenwood.
