can one tell if screen is matte or glossy?

Excellent tv for the money. I bought one right after black friday from Amazon and couldn't be happier. Just make sure you can control room lighting as it is a glossy screen. Also, be aware that this is a "dumb" tv with no apps, no 3D, or other costly gadgets. It's just a basic tv with a gorgeous picture. It has two HDMI ports and one set of component inputs as well as a digital optical and that's it. If you need more ports, you'll have to use a cheap hdmi switcher (check monoprice).

You won't find a better picture for the price.

The thumbnail picture of the tv is WRONG. The pedestal is no longer a duck foot style pedestal and looks more like a Samsung or LG. Also, the tv has a clear piece trim plastic all around the bezel giving it a modernized look. Amazon has the same picture as the thumbnail but if you can go to Sam's to check it out in person, you'll see what I mean. The model at Sam's is the P60U54 but it's the exact same set, just a differentiating model number. This set has the same pedestal as the ST and GT series do

Certainly a decent deal, but I would caution anyone buying a large TV to look at the return policy for defective merchandise.

For Buydig, the onus is on the buyer and I can't imagine what it cost to ship a large TV any distance. plus there's the bother of actually keeping the original shipping materials to package it properly for return.

Not according to their return policy, if you don't like it, you should pay for return shipping IMO anyways. But if there is an issue, no cost to the purchaser.

I bought this TV on Thursday when it was on 2-day special at Fry's for the same price. The stand is square. The pictures on Pansonic's own site [panasonic.com] also show the square pedestal. Researching on the differences between the U50 and U54, I also found reports that the U54 is missing some of the picture adjustment settings that are on the U50.

We should also point out that it runs on 120 volts.

No tax either, finally pulled the trigger on this. This was pretty much TV of the year for dumb budget 60" TVs. Hoping the return policy doesn't bite me in the ass. Frys has had this at $700 before though. EPP had this at $765 with tax prior to selling out.

People that are comparing this to LED or LCD might care, or not know.

Seriously debating this or the P55UT50 that will be at costco starting on 1/31 for $749. That one will be about $20 more after taxes, and ease of mind of dealing with costco, but I would really rather have the 5 extra inches than the smart TV/3D which I'll probably never use.
