It was the same brand. Arctic Cooling MX-2. It was mwave.com through ebay. I bought 5 of them.

edit: oh, but these from newegg come in the packaging I believe. The mwave.com through ebay was just bulk packaging. I don't really care though.

Also, those were 1.5 g tubes, whereas this is 3.6 g. So you would need 2 1/2 of those to equal the amount of 1 of these.

But yes, that was a good deal at Mwave if you don't like rebates. Unfortunately, it expired at the end of December if I'm not mistaken, so this is probably the best deal for the time being.

I don't have to pay tax, I get free 2 day shipping wIth ShopRunner, and I get 2% CB, which covers the cost of postage, so it ends up costing me nothing. That sucks that Newegg charges tax there... I can see why you would hesitate.

Isn't Mwave also based out of CA? I'm surprised they didn't charge you tax on eBay if they are.

they did, but tax on a buck is only 9 cents, whereas for this deal, tax would be over a buck.

I'm pretty sure both of the ones in November were for MX-2 (since the name of the rebate PDF on my computer has the same item # as this one). I don't think they've had an MIR for Arctic Silver.

By my count, they have had 3 FAR MIRs for MX-2 and 1 FAR MIR for MX-4.

I did not weigh it, but by the size of it, it should be far less than 0.5g (you just changed from 0.7 to 0.5) per application.

wow, newegg is fast, I already received this today.

I have core i7-3770k with stock cooler, cleaned off old paste.

I then applied it to cpu with rice grain method, no difference on idle but noticed about 2 degrees less on cpu load.

To be honest, not worth the trouble, unless you are an overclocker, or if your old paste has dried out.

Thermal paste itself may not have a huge effect on temps, but even a cheapo heatsink/fan (hyper 212+ is ~$20, and many alternatives) can make a huge difference. my older i7-920 at stock went from idling at 40-50C to 25-30C and 50C under load.

Also, thermal paste can take a little time to cure and work "properly" / better.

my order of two 4g tubes for 7.99 shipped of arctic mx-2 arrived but they sent me two 1.5g tubes instead. filing dispute with paypal.
