Not if you get a non-vented battery.

I'm not going to get into the specifics of how to correctly relocate a battery. My point is, this box has a purpose for some people; battery relocation being one of them. If the box was useless, it wouldn't be made for retail.

Im not sure who is making Costco batteries currently, but Ive read that one or two brands are especially known for ending up with LOTS of corrosion around the battery terminals. And with the Costco battery in my wifes car, Ive never seen so much corrosion. Granted, you can buy the terminal cleaners, sprays, etc but this is the worst Ive seen it even after cleaning.

I believe Johnson Controls are much better in this regard. Something with minor chemistry differences and possibly the number of plates in the battery.

It looks like these Diehard are relabelled from a REALLY good brand. For all I know Costco is the same right now, but I would be looking long and hard at ever buying another Costco battery again. YMMV.

There is no such thing as a non-vented battery. Even so-called maintenance-free may and will release some acid fumes once in a while, especially when getting old. That's why they are called VRLA battery (valve-regulated lead–acid battery) [wikipedia.org]

My point is this so-called 'battery box' is quite useless and is nothing but a cheap marketing ploy.

They're primarily used for installing in a boat or the exterior of an RV's to keep the battery and connections clean and dry.

I'm not a battery expert but having just bought a Kirkland battery this was my comparison:
At Costco my group 58 battery was $67 with 36 month free replacement and 100 month prorated warranty, 610 CCA and (if memory serves) 90 min. reserve capacity.
At Sears the DieHard North, Group Size 58 is now $76 with an 18 month free replacement and 72 month prorated warranty, 540 CCA and 75 min. reserve capacity.
I'm happy with the Kirkland and hopefully will be for years to come.

Glad this came up. I've been worried if my car would start in the mornings as I know I need a new battery. This deal + Sears2012 + 10,000 points SYWR means I'm getting a new battery for almost 40% off. A Die Hard battery too.

After all, is there anything is "Made in USA" now a days?. CAn you just walk into a Walmart and show me if there is something made in USA? US outsourced manufacturing long back. Surprised to see if some Car batteries are made here locally.
