A sub is not always better.

Some people do not have room for a sub.

Some people find a sub adds too much bass to music.

Some people need to listen at low volumes where a sub would be too noisy.

Some people would rather buy their own sub to pair with the speakers (and at this price you could afford to add a sub)

Nevertheless, no sub makes these better for music than it does for movies or gaming.

I paid $145 for mine and thought I got a steal, this is a very slick deal for those looking for small 2.0 computer speakers. These are small and sound best for nearfield listening. They will get loud, but they will not fill a room. For 2.1 either add a sub for around $100 or look at something like the Klipsch Promedia or Swan M10 in the same price range.
