If you're looking for a decent EDC like this I would look into sanrenmu knives (ebay is a good source). I just picked up a Sanrenmu 721P [ebay.com] to replace the gerber paraframe I lost... and I actually like it better. Out of the box, razor sharp... lightweight but solid. If you're looking for an EDC similar to the scout, check out the 763... it lacks serration (not super useful for EDC IMO anyway) but people rave about it online.

This would be a perfect knife to help finish cutting a poorly sliced pizza while you're staying at a hotel "surviving".

serations carry the same amount of cutting edge as you would fine in a longer straight line (plain edge) or that is the concept of such. However you must saw back and forth in order to use the serration to its full potential, otherwise you only accually catch just one side of the serrated edge.

Image a straight piece of string and it being razor sharp

image that string now being pushed up (compressed) to mimic a serrated edge (peaks and valleys). The string visually became shorter, but if you was to trace the string, its still the same length when it was straight.

There's a lot of good knife deals out there including the pretty decent Cabela's clearance that had some Gerber's and SOG's. I would pass on this...very good chance it's a crappy knockoff.

Hmmm...a 2.5" blade to gut a deer? Guess I'm a city boy.

All sorts of uses for the serrated portion of the blade, including dealing with small branches/sticks.

I've carried one of the actual Gerber BG compacts for a couple of years and have a new one waiting to be put into service. The logo has worn completely off the original, not that it's a problem. I've got a number of more expensive knives that are similar; but I prefer the light weight of this model. It nearly disappears in your pocket.

LOL, I know you people think a hunter needs a Rambo knife. Every hunting knife I actually use has less than a three inch blade. You open up a hole over the sternum then take a gut hook or zip tool (uses utility blades) and open up the belly with that. You can use a knife for the whole thing but you have to be extremely careful and there is no point in doing it that way. I use a larger skinning knife for skinning but it's still not as large as a rambo knife or even half and it's shaped completely different.

I use a folding saw for branches. Gerber makes a great one that also comes with a bone saw blade. Although I now use a reciprocating saw and 12 inch demolition blade for anything on a deer than needs to be sawed.

You can bone out the hams or cut the bones with a heavy pruner or bolt cutter and it's much easier than sawing.

The meritline one looks fake. In the meritline picture of the folded knife the serrated part does not match the amazon/gerber pictures

Meritline sells, and has sold, a number of these copies. I've bought the CRKT clone (now called columbian style) and the discontinued models including the: Mantis knife copy, the replica Kershaw and the fugazi S&W tac knives.

Build quality on these are all over the map (some nice ones and some glove box knives), but they consistently arrive dull with a mostly unfinished blade.
