Over the last three years I have received no more than three DVD's (beta program, movie etc...). And the only reason I was given those was just for completeness. Good deal. I'm waiting for Apple to roll out the Air with Retina Display.
My 4.2 year old Unibody Macbook has been running solid like a thoroughbred w/ 8gb RAM and SSD.

A lot of people bash Macbooks for their price, but the OS and hardware are superb.
There's also the fantastic customer service at Apple stores that PC manufacturers fail to offer.

Did that first thing. DVD is useless, I have not even opened my desktop DVD drive for 2 years...

Hadn't seen that deal but this one I know works as I've gotten Office 2010 and Office 2011 for Mac last year, assuming your company has an EA.. that is the same thing you are referencing, the HUP, Home Use Program.

I did this and put a SSD in there...it has extended the life of my MBP by years. It's so quick...starts up in just a matter of seconds and when you upgrade the memory too its like getting a brand new machine....I highly recommend doing this.

Couldn't disagree more for web surfing.

If your dvd drive is useless to you then just make sure to slap a 256gb ssd in the primary hd slot. Replace DVD with DVD HD Caddy from ebay and drop a 7200rpm 500gb-750gb drive in place of your dvd rom or replace with bluray drive if you don't want second HD. That way you will have 256gb ssd and 750gb HD instead of a useless dvd. With Macbook Pro that is in this thread you will be able to do that. With retina you can't have dual drives or upgrade to 16gb of ram on a whim for like $60-$80. Retina everything is soldered and no upgrades possibly unless you pay triple for upgrades when you customize.
