Might as well get use to it. More and more laptops are going to dump disc drives. How many
have floppy drives these days. Who burns discs anymore, not many. Want to watch movies
that's what a LAN and an iMac with external drives are for.
Good deal. I'm waiting for Apple to roll out the Air with Retina Display.
My 4.2 year old Unibody Macbook has been running solid like a thoroughbred w/ 8gb RAM and SSD.
I have an Acer laptop that had been running for over 4 years too that I got for ~$200. Even after lending it to people that are drop-happy. That same drop-happy person had a Macbook Pro that lasted maybe a year or two (she had to get it fixed after just 2 months).
A lot of people bash Macbooks for their price, but the OS and hardware are superb.
There's also the fantastic customer service at Apple stores that PC manufacturers fail to offer.
Costs less, i7, IPS 1080p, lighter. There's something to be said when equivalent hardware can cost around half as much. And it's not like the CS you get is free. Just saying.
It's more a bashing of the Apple fans that talk about how magically superior Apple's hardware is and that somehow justifies paying so much more.
Debating whether to buy this or wait for the refresh lineup Apple is planning this year.
From what someone said earlier you cannot upgrade RAM, hard drives, etc on the new macbook pro retinas as everything is already soldered together. I'd imagine mac is going to try to do this to all new lineups if that makes a difference in your mind.
A lot of hating in this thread. To sum it up this computer is for people who would like a mac and are on a more traditional and economic scale. Some people still want more than 128GB hard drive even if it's not the slick SSD and some people still have DVD's/CD's and don't pirate all their media online. It's just matter of preference plus this can be upgraded in the future when the price of SSD's is cheaper unlike the new retina macs. I wouldn't have gone to the macbook air thread Friday and thumbs down and bashed it because it didn't have a DVD drive or enough memory, because it was still a good deal for people who do most of their stuff via cloud.
I'm waitin and it hurts cuz i see the deals and want to jump. I'm pretty sure Apple is going to jam out some touch screen Air's and it's going to be a great time to get refurb and clearance deals on the 'older' models.
thib Of course I told my friends it was daft to sink $$s into apple stock when it was $20....they did, I didn't, they're retired now, I'm still working my senior citizen butt off.
Hm, good point. I guess I'll wait for the upcoming models this year, if the price is right that is.
