Deal Details

Did not see this posted anywhere so I figured I'd put it up.

It would appear that Sam's Club (possibly all of them but possibly only some) has canceled the Simply Right (in-house) brand of whey protein and has priced them to clear. This item is not on their website however I found it at the Deptford, NJ location. They had 33 left.

YMMV since you need to find a club that stocks it and one that has priced it to clear. I tried it and it wasn't bad tasting and mixed pretty good. Expiration date on my bag is June 2014.

Nutrition Information:

120 calories
23g protein
3g carbs

I've uploaded a picture. I found the product in the 'Health and Beauty' section.

Amazon [amazon.com] has it for about $40 shipped, but no reviews.

I bought MuscleTech at Sam's and it makes me feel sick after drinking it. I feel like I'm going to vomit and my stomach starts to hurt really bad.

Guys, Appreciate posting your experiences. Also on top of everything else, Artificial sweeteners have a strong link to Cancer. There are a lot of articles online corroborating that. In my opinion, any synthetic and GM foods will alter your DNA and all the subsequent long term ill effects. We spend close to 18% of our GDP on Healthcare ( the highest among all ) and Americans are the sickest as well - Kinda Chicken and Egg relationship here.

There's no conclusive clinical evidence that links artificial sweeteners to toxicity in humans. Also, Mercola is a nut job making money with exaggerated claims and lies.

Seriously, you are discussing sugar versus artificial sweetener when buying artificial protein powder?? You people need help! Eat food not protein powder and you will be just fine...

Someone asked for expiration...Like I said, mine says June 2014.

I can't comment on the artificial sweeteners. They don't make me sick or anything, and I'm not a big believer in the cancer thing. However, if you have an intolerance to something, you need to respect it and avoid certain products, I don't think this can be debated.

I don't think it tastes bad, actually, it's half decent. I usually buy the Body Fortress whey at Walmart, and I've dropped about 20 lbs while adding some decent muscle in the five months I've been taking it (and working out obviously). In my opinion, whey is whey and if the ingredients are acceptable to you, go for it. Since I'm OK with the ingredients, and think it mixes decent enough as well as tastes good enough, I'm happy with the price and value.

Go ahead and call for this one, they'll have plenty if they actually stock it, and the person answering the phone isn't going to go hoard it. To make things easier though, if someone buys this please post the item number for it! It will make calling easier for people. It is actually in the tag in my picture (the number in the top right corner) but I can't tell what it is and I don't have my receipt. You will have better luck determining if a club has it because most likely, the person behind the counter will not actually go look for the product and if they transfer it, the person taking it might not know where to look. The item number is only a few digits long and the person can see if they have it or if any clubs nearby have it. If it is not posted by Thursday, I will try to get it for you guys.

this has to taste like crap

Actually, it's probably one of the best tasting Vanilla protein shakes I've ever had. Don't confuse price with taste. Muscle Milk is horrible tasting and it's more expensive.

First of all great price OP. I'm gonna go look for some.

All that aside, there has not been a single randomized controlled trial showing any links to cancer or other negative health effects to any artificial sweetener in humans. I've seen tons of anecdotal evidence. But in randomized control trials, often 10-20% of people report headaches when they're getting placebo treatments. Yes, no treatment results in numerous people getting side effects. That's the whole point of a double blinded RCT... to preven the placebo effect. When people take in a new substance, they often report side effects that aren't actually attributable to the drug.

I could fall asleep with my socks on and wake up with a headache tomorrow and then blame my socks for my headache (that's called anecdotal evidence (in other words, complete crap with no scientific backing).

People often send me studies on rats getting cancer from megadoses of artificial sweeteners. But you can also kill a rat from megadoses of pure water.... so please, if you're going to send me a link, send it to something that actually has some scientific backing.

As far as the website linked above, it is full of crap...

"A 2008 study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences16 demonstrated how nutrition alone can have a tremendous impact not just on prevention, but even on the treatment of cancer once you’ve been diagnosed.

The study involved men with prostate cancer who declined surgery, hormonal therapy, or radiation and instead participated in an intensive nutrition and lifestyle intervention while undergoing careful surveillance for tumor progression.

The men made changes in their diets, exercised moderately, used stress management techniques and also participated in a psychosocial support group, and these changes influenced the expression of hundreds of genes. Specifically:

Some of the changes positively impacted genes that help fight cancer
Other changes helped turn off genes that promote cancer development"

What he fails to mention is that prostate CA is one of the slowest growing cancers in the human body. Changes in diet aren't what slowed the progression of it, it's a naturally slowly progressive cancer that can often times stay in check for 10+ years without any treatment. If he had the same results with pancreatic cancer, I'd give him some credence. But to take a slow growing cancer, not compare it to a control group and then make a conclusion that his results are valid...

Just as an fyi, my background is an M.D.... i'm not saying artificial sweeteners are definitely safe, despite multiple studies, not one person has shown in a radomized controlled trial that limited doses of them has any negative side effects.

It use to hurt my stomach at first...smaller servings helped me get use to it. Also, feeling sick may be because of how it curdles in your stomach? I know after I drink 20 oz of this stuff with 2 scoops...I USE to feel like a blimp...but again, now I'm use to it. Is this your first time drinking protein? If so, it seems to be a common thing to adjust to.

you know, your species wouldve gone extinct via natural selection if it wasnt for modern science
I'm forced to wonder if that's a good thing every time people speak of those with disabilities / health issues as a different species... (cant argue the science bit though)

FWIW, most humans become sensitive to these artificial additives after reaching a threshold dosage. The amount it takes just varies; my system wasn't affected until I had used Splenda for over a year.

Guess I'm in for a trip to Sams.

I feel safe with sucralose. I did my research. Don't take my word for it, I won't push my opinion like the douchebags.

Mixed it up with a banana and skim milk today. Would give it a 10/10 for taste when I did this. Just milk + whey mixed with a spoon, probably give it a 7/10.

I think I'm gonna go snag another bag.

No, I've drank it for a while, but I normally buy the Gold Standard Whey.
