This kindle first generation CAN be rooted to custom rom. Thus can be used as any other lcd android tablet.
New 2nd gen + kindle generation, such as Kindle Fire CAN be rooted but NO CUSTOM rom (amazon locked it out), thus limited in ability to run generic android applications & tied strongly to amazon eco system. Second generation Kindle Fire may have better hardware (sound, speed, screen) but much more limit in available apps, and more expensive too

Definitely! My sister watches netflix and pretty used it for a browser in addition to a reader. I mostly use mine for twitter, games and presentations. |

In for one. Always wanted a tablet type device for netflix and apps. With the 30 day return policy from Best Buy Clearance, no brainer for me.
