you can put the amazon app store (apk) back onto any rom, so you wont lost out of any store....wrong question my bad |

original amazon kindle has big following in xda, which is good because rooted device with custom roms will have a lot more options, flexibility and upgradable to more recent android version.  If you only want to read books, a smaller subset of games, amazon prime, surf internet, then rooting is not necessary. If you want to use it as a tablet, with more game variety, task, scheduler, consolidated email in scrollable form....etc, then rooting with custom rom is recommended. This is my personal opinion... I've owned a Geek Squad Refurb iPod Touch and it literally felt like a cheap knockoff. GS certified isn't something I'd rely on, especially since they only give you a 90 day warranty. It's a great deal though, but buy at your own risk.

Strangely, I have actually kept the device (in a drawer), because: 1. It just feels incredibly well-built for a tablet in its price-range (or, honestly, any tablet) and 2. With the new Blackberry 10 devices coming out shortly, I imagine the impending OS update will provide some niceties. The amazon tablet sounds like the way to go for the price. Even if you're only using it for browsing now, if you ever think you might want to download some hot new app... You can be nearly certain that it won't be available for the playbook. At least there's a chance it'll be usable on the kindle (or rooted kindle). |
