It is 0.5a if you don't know how to short your usb cable. There are several customized ROM has SOFT MOD USB to charge at AC current.

If you know how to hammer a nail, open your usb cable and short the green and white line at the microUSB end to get >0.5a charging. If you are geeky enough, flash a ROM with fast charging mod.

Otherwise, stay away all chargers from new Trent, which has the isheep customers as their first priority.

This reply make no sense.
1st this is a 12V DC to USB power adapter.
it states port one is 1 amp and the other port is 2.1 amp, why would someone have to mess with their usb cable to get LESS amperage?
Looks like someone hit their head while using a hammer.
Also, fast charging battery's shortens their life and operational time.
And if attempting to force a thinner wire usb cable to handle more power than it can can lead to something called fire when the wires heat up enough.

This is phone specific.
Some phones sense fast charging based of the resistance between those pins.
There is no danger in it (if done properly).
It just a way for the phone to limit the amp draw to .5A when it thinks it is connected to a USB port.

if you have no knowledge about USB charging and AC charging, you can just keep quiet and nobody will know it.

I bought this charger recently and you need a special cable (or make one yourself) in order to charge on the AC setting. Basically the data wires need to be shorted for most Android devices.

Also the micro-usb cable that comes with this, is a charging only cable that is missing the data wires, it only charges at 0.5 A (USB charging) because the data wires are missing and not shorted.

It's ironic that a fast charger should come with a crippled slow-charging cable...

But the slow-charging cable can actually be useful if you intend to slow charge a device using any USB charger (it will limit the charging rate to 0.5 amps). For instance in a hot environment, slow-charging your device will keep the temperature within the device lower.

So basically what you guys are saying is that there are two types of USB cables, data+charging (slower charging), and charging only (faster charging), and the one included with this charger is the data+charging kind?

i think the 3.1A means the whole charger work current, not these two ports, we can see the clearly sign from picture, one is 1A, the other is 2.1A, maybe you have misunderstood that.

No. Cable mod is typically done because it is easier and you can then take it from charger to charger.
Most android phones come with a "normal" USB data cable and a "special" charger that has a small resistance (<200 ohms) between them. This can be simulated by shorting those pins or placing a small resistor between them.

Many custom ROM's have fast charging enabled by default or optional via software.

BTW I ran across a car charger that has one port designed for android fast charging and another for iphone/ipad charging. Can't remember which it was or seem to find it atm....But it exists.

So without modifying the included cable, this would not be a good charger for non-iPhone devices like SGS3 and, say, BlackBerries (if I'm looking for >0.5A?)

I was speaking in general. I can't speak to this specific model since I've missed the past couple deals but I did catch this one.
My primary device is a SGS3, so once I receive mine I can confirm.
Just received mine. It charges in AC mode (vs USB) with both my OEM Samsung cable and the cable provided).
I have not tested the actual charge time yet.
