How is 3.5 inches considered slim? Nice TV though!
I've seen this comment many times now. I don't understand why people think a tv that is a few inches thick is "too thick" or "not slim enough".
Maybe someone can explain the logic. Does that extra inch or so really make your room feel cramped? I know that some other people prefer to hang these on the wall, but does that extra bit of thickness protruding from your wall really make a difference. We're not talking about a smartphone that you carry in your pocket.
I've had the Sharp LC60E78UN (60") for a couple years now and I couldn't be happier about the purchase. It's probably 3.5"-4" deep and sits on a stand that is about 10" deep. You wouldn't know the difference if it was 1" thick or 6" thick. Plus, the picture is EXCELLENT. Which by the way, is most important to me. My next purchase will more than likely be another Sharp.

My 60" sharp 120hz LCD has been pretty good, I think it is a LC60E78UN. It was roughly the same price as the 70" but that was a couple years ago, maybe late 2011, I dont remember. Either way, a bit of backlight bleed, but good for the price.
Huge waste of money for the Samsung which was $1000 more at the time, pretty much same image quality.
I've always paid the premium for Samsung/Sony TVs, but will stick with the "cheap+quality" brands from now on.
Soap opera effect? My brother has a 70" sharp from costco and it's HORRIBLE watching movies on it. Maybe there is a setting, but I don't like the feeling I'm watching SNL everytime I see a movie.
There is most certainly a setting for that. Tell your brother to adjust the Fine Motion, Film Mode, and Digital Noise reduction settings. I too hate the Soap Opera effect. You can completely eliminate it with these settings adjustments. You can even create a custom user mode just for certain viewings, such as movies, sports, etc. I believe that 99% of tv's have this custom option.
