Seeing how Apple makes their products in such a propriatory manner that they're increasingly impossible to upgrade or to repair yourself, you can buy another one 'on sale' for $1249 when this one fritzes out!

I have the 2011 version of this and i must admit, i do like the compact and lightweight factor. However I'm not a big apple fan. i got the laptop at 20% off back then and it was the best laptop for the price and spec back then. I wanted to upgrade the hard drive but i've come to find out that it is nearly impossible. I also wish the battery would last longer. I get maybe 3-5hours on it. I have too many laptops already. holding out and waiting for the day of true 10hr. laptop.

Yup... I'll stick with an X230t convertible, thanks! Oh and it cost about half the amount and runs Windows, instead of some oddball OS that most of my tools wouldn't work on. YAY! This thing isn't really much different than a ~$400 11.6" netbook PC you can snag, including around the same specs. It's thin and that's it.

this would be great on the 13inch mac air... i just don't see why you need an i7 on an 11inch

I'm with you 90% of the way. For $500, you could probably find a PC that's equivalent spec-wise to this. For $800-$900 you could find something approaching this form-factor and spec-wise. And there are plenty of examples of software that isn't available on OSX.

Having said that, there are plenty of advantages to OSX. It's arguably more intuitive than Windows, is less of a resource hog, etc. Also, you can't forget resale value. I just checked eBay,a 2008 17" Macbook Pro w/ a Core 2 Duo CPU just went for $600. An HP Elitebook w/ Core 2 Duo just went w/out bids for $200.
