Thread Details

How to get the 5 year renewal for $79.99 + taxes instead of $99.99 :

Step1: Go to your MJ homepage and do a live chat, I chatted with the guy for a minute or two and noticed a little popup on the right hand side corner which said "click here to end chat and get your 48 hour reward"
Step2: on clicking it it opened up a 1 question survey on how well the guy did.
Nothing after I submitted it, 5 mins later an email popped up and I was able to get the offer

Magic Jack 5 year renewal for $79.99 save $20.00, new MagicJack Plus for $59.95 save $10, 1 year renewal for $24.95 save $5.00

If you were able to save some money, reps are appreciated !

(Attached pictures for the email proof and the button to click on the chat window)
I do not think this is YMMV because every time I opened up the live chat window I was able to see the 48 hr reward link )

In an effort to keep our little office price-efficient, we decided to try MagicJack and I can honestly tell you: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!

There are 2 local numbers that when I dial, I get a magic jack ad rather than the company I want. There are days when a person calling in cannot hear me and days when the volume dies so bad I cannot hear the person. Many a time I get so frustrated I use me cell phone.

Had to laugh the other day when one of my bosses called in - I heard nothing but the phone ring. He called several times and the same thing happened. I could not hear him. I finally called him on my cell and asked if he had had enough. We are now looking at other options! :o)

Oh, and don't even try to get a splitter and try to use it with a fax machine . . . I almost always get a "bad line" message.

I've been using it for 3 years with out much issue- if you do not have a good internet connection- your call quality can suffer.

Don't understand why you would pay a subscription when Obitalk is free. Can someone explain?

Karrun, I heard of Obihai but always wondered if it's really free. Don't you still need to first subscribe (with a monthly fee) to a VOIP service provider to use it ? Appreciate if you can explain this a bit more. I am very interested in cutting off my Vonage and go with something cheaper.

Anyone who'd like to chime in is welcome !

You can pair obi with google talk which is free (for now).

My dad has Magic Jack. Kind of nice because every time I call it goes straight to voicemail.

Not sure if this is a feature or they just suck.

I have the new MJ plus. had it for a month, works well.. beats paying $50 for cell service i don't use. Now I have a home phone that I don't use very often. I ported my cell number to my MJ plus and I think i'll keep it seeing that the small problems aren't really a big deal.

You can go into your account and set the ringer to answer after so many rings or none at all.

Right. You buy the device and, in conjunction with Google Voice, get absolutely free service. As long as Google Voice is free. They already announced GV will be free through 2013.

Thanks for this post!! i renewed with the 5 year deal.

So my experience with MagicJack has been great. All the problems described in this post were what my mom was having with her PC device. She also had like 1 mb internet so that was mainly the problem overall. I have a 15mb internet service and it works great. I never get calls from any telemarketer so that's a plus. A buddy that has Verizon for his home phone always gets telemarketer calls every other evening. Another buddy with Tmobile home line also gets telemarketer calls. I'm sure there's a way to block those calls but I've never had a problem with MagicJack. I will drop a call but like after 1 hr of talk or so. It's pretty good if you want to have a back up phone line.

Again thanks for this post! Rep

I have used MJ for almost six years and with little issues. If you do not have a good internet connection it will not work well. Two other family members use this and have for the same amount of years with no issues. IF U DO NOT HAVE GOOD INTERNET IT WILL NOT WORK WELL.

I gave up on MJ hen the calls to my brother and father in northern MN were rejected by the local telco. They are not paying some sort of fee to access the infrastructure so they do not connect the call I can call with Google talk / OBI thouh
