That is messed up.
When I was with Tmo I just called and asked them to turn off data and they did so no matter what my phone was set on, I got no data.
But with carriers forcing data plans yet another reason I will be prepaid for the foreseeable future.
tmobile operates differently. I believe if you sign a contract while buying a smartphone, then you can't remove the data plan until the contract is over.

nope. any smartphone on att is required to have a data plan. (unless you have that old smartphone exclusion thing)
Unless AT&T has the Nexus 4 IMEI in their auto-detection database, there is no reason they will automatically add the plan. Their system will only do this if the phone is in their global IMEI database or it has triggered data activity similar to a smartphone. The person should have no problem swapping existing SIM card by cutting it down (if needed) and moving it to the Nexus.

i'm using nexus 4 (16GB) on AT&T network. I never had issues as off now.
I check my mails regularly and use social network sites. And stream online radio a lot.

Only issue I see is with Bluetooth. Its a known issue and waiting for update from google for this fix.
This fix is available for some of the customers and i'm still waiting.

because a couple google searches say otherwise.

oh great. I knew one of you people will popup.

you either have some old iphones (pre-2009), have smartphone exclusion, verizon iphone 5, or you have a rare glitched account.

show us your "google searched" proof...see a lot of people tend to believe what ATT would like them to believe...

and do you really think googling it will give you a definitive answer?

Just a silly question. I'm buying this phone for my mom. We have AT&T family plan, but she doesn't have a data plan (and doesn't want it either). So, will AT&T automatically give her a data plan like it always does to most iPhone owners even though we don't buy the phone from them?
pm'd you on a possible way to do it...

I found this on XDA, specifically for the Nexus 4, but apparently works for most ICS+ devices.

You do have to flash but this is if you want a more permanent solution.

For something less permanent (you need root, btw):

thanks for the info...is there some way to just make ProCapture the default camera app for the phone? Or is there any way to get to the stock camera settings?

lol. i'm not running a nexus 4 because of what I found via google. if you're too lazy to search for it, then your loss.

yea, the iphone 3g came out in 2008, so it's part of the exempt models.
and since the other is a 4, then you may have been close enough to get the smartphone exclusion.

you're just trying to avoid showing "your" proof..don't ask others for proof if you can't provide your own...

and no, my wife's 4 isn't on a smartphone exclusion or any exemptions...

I got proof and I'm not sharing it...nod

I been using the N4 for a few days. Love the wide screen. Now typing is much easier. Love the loud speaker.

I m having trouble updating to 4.2.2 and everbody said not worth the time.

BT is still a trouble with everybody.

Unless N4 is different than most other Android phones, it is actually vibrate THEN silent, not the other way around.

You could also use an assistant app that either reads your Google Calendar or you can feed tasks to go to silent/vibrate/noise mode.
Youre right. My Sensation was reversed from that.

For Google Galaxy Nexus, they stop selling it BEFORE they start selling Nexus 4. So don't expect Google sell Nexus 4 after the newer version of Nexus phone come out.
