It's the DS212j. 2x2TB drives in SHR (Synology Hybrid Raid).

I get around 32MB/s write and 80MB/s read over gigabit wired network, short cat-6 run. For work purposes, it's a little slow for writing to. Ideally I'd like around 60-80MB/s write. If anyone has achieved faster results lemme know, maybe I did something wrong?

I have the ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus and it has been nothing but fantastic. Have all my media stored on it and stream it wireless (via Netgear R6300 router) to my home theater system. If anyone is debating the quality of netgear products you have nothing to fear. I would jump on this but alas I don't really need it and my wife would kill me (rightfully so).

Once you go synology, you won't go back in my experience. But the cheaper ones are slower. I moved from a DS212j (just a tester) to a DS412+ and haven't looked back. Make sure you pair your synology with a good Gigabit router and you'll see the best performance wired. I've tried a few other nases and haven't found anything else with the feature set of the synologies. If you're just looking to store data, a Readynas will do. If you want to store email, music, movies, etc--get a intel based synology.

The synology DS412+ diskless synology is $599 at newegg on sale and Amazon has the diskless DS713+ for $529. Overkill for a computer or two, but I love my DS412+ for a house full of media and access from remote. I have two 3TB disks in it now, but I love how I can add more later internally and I keep a usb drive plugged in to back it up (since I keep files on the synology that are not anywhere else on my network--files are only backed up if they're kept in 2+ places!).

If you just have a couple computers accessing at once and don't need plex, the DS213 or DS213+ are less expensive 2 disk NASes from synology. Different synologies have different chips and can run different software.

Is each bay maxed out @ 2TB?

The 5-year warranty is sweet.

I think that's what you'll get from 212j and I don't think you'll do much better from anyone else in that price range. Moving one big file will probably get you closer to 60 write, but that's not what you're ever going to do all the time. I have a DS412+ and get over 100 both ways.They say you can get 200 read and 180 write but that's because the the DS412+ and DS713+ have two gigabit ports--you're maxing one gigabit port at 125 in a perfect world!

that's the FAQ on what UnRaid is - be aware that it IS software raid, so not nearly as fast as one one of these things can or will do...

This is a weird combo, unless you're planning on streaming A LOT of stuff to your "yesterday's" tablet.

Max HDD Capacity8.0TB (4 x 2TB)

Not sure where you see 6 drives...

2 more 3.5" drives or 4 2.5" drives can fit in optical drive bay.

It also supports 16GB memory (limited number of RAM modules)

Plus, you can install PCI-e cards.

that sounds about right for a model ending in 'j'. you will have better answer to this if you post it in smallnetbuilder forums

Pretty cool. I'm not really sure if I need a NAS right now, but if I do go that direction, this may be a good option. Ideally I'd like a 6-bay USB 3.0 case.
