I have that same TV,,,I had some issues and a warranty repair in the first 90 days...the Tv would not power on
They fixed it and it ..IMO..has stellar picture quality

I did buy the 5 year warranty
I am not sure I would buy any purchase ..of this expense...without at least a provision for 2 years of coverage

Appreciate the input (I read the full post)! I don't plan on watching 3D content and I have a hacked ATV2 running XBMC so my only concern is picture quality. This CNET article [cnet.com] got me researching the image retention. I plan to run the tv with some break in media for at least 200 hours when I first get it. Between that and not playing video games I think I should be ok.

Image retention shouldn't be a problem if you break it in properly. I ran break in media for 100 hrs and haven't had any problems with my plasma yet. I watch alot of sports and play games on my tv and image retention have not been an issue. Usually any image retention disappears after watching 30 min of a regular program.

My presonal experience with plasma is if you live at a high elevation (im in colorado) stay away from them. they buzz, i had 3 samsung plasmas that i kept returning to best buy due to buzzing then finally gave up and got an LED. Also the retention was annoying, spending so much on a TV then needing to run slides for hours upon hours is ridiculous.

Man sweet deal any advantages of plasma over led?

Two things...I bought the 63" Samsung Plasma a couple of years ago, from Tiger, and had a wonderful experience. If you order it and it's damaged, you can return it, but if you're just one of those people who order to return things a day later, then quit ordering and let someone who truly wants it get in on the deal.

Secondly, how has nobody mentioned Discover cash back?? 5%! That makes this deal SMOKING hot, at $1,710. Great deal, and you can't get 5% with Amazon.

isn't 7% from mr rebates better then 5%?

fyi, Samsung plasma are really poor quality. read the reviews on amazon for the pn64e8000. they buzz, the glass panel cracks when it overheats among other things. beware... i had the 60 inch version and returned due to really loud buzzing.

Same thing happened to me with the same exact TV. Samsung has a class action lawsuit against this capacitor problem but would not honor it since this model number is not on the lawsuit. I ended up having to throw away a 4 year old TV that cost $2400 brand new.

Just 3 HDMI? DEALBREAKER!
