Note that this is the USB 2.0 version of the product. It's usable for relatively small transfers, but if, for example, you wanted to transfer 1 TB of data at once onto or off of a drive, it would be brutally slow.
480 Mbps (megabits per second) = 60 MB (megabytes) per second. In practice, USB 2.0 rarely performs above 40 MB. So 1 TB transfer will take: 1 TB = 1,048,576 MB 1,024,000 / 40 = 26214 seconds / 60 = 437 minutes / 60 = roughly 7 hours and 15 minutes. By comparison, eSATA, which is available on the newer versions of this product, performs at up to 3 Gbps = 3072 Mbps = 384 megabytes per second, so transferring that same 1 TB will take about 45 minutes, maybe an hour. |

This one can only dock 1 hd at at time. Last month I paid the same $ for a dual docking and that was a great deal.
