I got a message today to ask me to upgrade my ipad2 to iOS6.1. So I did.. then it was downloading something, then it showed a USB plug in to iTunes on the screen. So I plugged the USB cable to the ipad and open the iTunes (itunes is updated too). I got a message saying the ipad is in recovery mode and I need to do a restore. So i clicked the button and it started some process again. After a while, I got an error message saying "there was a problem downloading software for ipad. the network connection timed out". I tried numerous times including restarting computer, reinstalling itunes, turning off/disable firewall and antivirus softward and everything that I could think of, but it still gives me the same message. Any apple expert out there to help me out? Thanks a bunch!
Put your iDevice into DFU mode by holding down both the home and power buttons for 10 seconds. Then release the power button and continue to hold down the home button. Make sure that the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch is plugged into your computer. You will get a message in iTunes saying you need to restore your device.
Next you will want to download the iOS firmware that you want to install....
It is working!!! Finally! Thank you so much boltman.. I think the most important thing is to download the firmware myself instead of using itunes.. Then after downloading, I just copy it to the ipad software folder then it started working from there. Thanks again!
