Deal Details

The following Recaro ProRide rear facing/ front facing car seat is $179 at Amazon after applying 20% off Amazon Mom's Appreciation coupon "BABY2013". The coupon is going to be expiring in Feb 1st. This is the lowest price ever on this model according to SD search.

Personally, I have done quite a bit of research on car seats for my one year old and I narrowed down the choice to this Recaro and Britax Advocate (the current top of the line Britax). I went through 100s of online reviews and personally checked out both of them at a local Baby R US. The Advocate shape is just a little too big for my preference (about 22 inches across when I measured it) and Recaro seat looks better Smilie

So are a lot of Recaro ProRide buyers at Amazon comparing with Britax brand. If you search "Britax" in Recaro's Amazon reviews, you will see a lot of happy Recaro buyers. One of the reviewers pointed out that the Recaro seat is tested according to German's safety standard of 45 miles/hour car accidents while the Britax is tested under US standard of 30 MPH accident.

Anyways, I got a lot out of SD over the years, and I am just doing my part to help out parents in SD. We all can use extra $ especially those of us with kids Smilie

ProRide link to Amazon [amazon.com]

Note: They also has RECARO Prosport Car seat (non Rear Facing) for toddlers for the same price after coupon. Just search for it.

Edit:
Just woke up Smilie like one of the post said, you have to be in Amazon Mom's program to make use of the coupon, it is free to join a trial for 90 days (and thats what I have done). It is the same as Amazon Prime with free 2 days shipping, just make sure that you turn off the auto renewal if you decide not to renew.

The coupon only applies to the car seats sold by amazon only (not the third party sellers).

If you just joined Amazon Mom to buy this, one of the conditions for the coupon said you have to wait for at least 24 hours after joining Amazon Mom program before using the coupon FrownSo if you are on the fence about purchasing the car seat, join Amazon Mom program today or tomorrow just in case and buy it by Friday. If you wait till Friday to join, it will be too late as the coupon expired on Friday.

This is a great deal on the ProRides. For those on the fence between these and the Britax, both seem to be constructed well and have adjustment as your child grows. As mentioned, the ProRides seem to sit higher, so that can be a plus or minus depending on the car you drive. If your car is smaller, the higher seat may make it harder to place your child in the seat. That said, I have a 2 door, 4 seater, and while the wife complains, I can manage. Another difference is the Britax is a slightly wider seat. So if your child is slightly larger, it may be a more comfortable fit. If your child is smaller, the Recaro may make more sense as there is less 'wiggle' room. My son is a larger 16 month old now and seems really comfortable in the Recaro's. It seems there is still a good amount of room to grow... I think most kids hit the height limit of car seats before they hit the weight limit.. which I think is 70lbs on these. I can't see a 70lb child being too comfy in either of these seats, but I'll find that out when the time comes Smilie

This is not true. Britax has an in house Sled where they test above FMVSS 213 requirements (which is the 30 MPH you are referencing).

Another fact to note, Britax convertibles are made in the USA whereas Recaro is made in China.

Just an FYI.

Anyone having luck still using this? On an Amazon Mom account and it isn't working.

Just a note about this seat. We bought it to replace a Britax seat but I've used Graco and Chico as well and this is the hardest seat to install of all of them. Difficult to install and frustrating. Fortunately with ff carseats you don't take them out as often as rf ones.

And the code is a one time use per account only. Have you used the code previously on your account?

Sorry, that was supposed to quote the above post.

I am trying to use that coupon code but it doesn't work.
It only works with certain models of the seat. The blaze and solid black for sure. I ordered the blaze last week.

The Recaro ProRide is made in the USA. Other models are made in China. For example if you are looking for one with a little more manual adjustability and lower cost, (assuming you are ok with it being made in China) you can get the Euro model for $142.78.

I personally have the ProRide and just ordered a second for the other car with this promo. Mostly so they match if we ever put them in the same car.
