Based on the pitiful video examples posted online from this DVR setup. I can't see this being remotely useful with the 1-2 frames per second and iffy clarity. Spend another hundred or so now and if the time comes that you NEED the video, it will have all been worth it. $0.02

I've tried several solar lights already and have had no luck on them lasting at least a month.
Started with the Heath Zenith one from HD [homedepot.com]. It's halogen, not LED, can adjust up/down, left/right (important for me since it needs to light a driveway on the side of the house). It's a bright yellowish light. Replaced with the Amazon one [amazon.com] people have suggested. Got it cheap on a lightning deal but I'm on my second replacement and it's not working anymore. It's more of a white light but not as bright as the halogen one above. It can only adjust up and down, not sideways. I also tried a Rosewill one from Newegg [newegg.com]when it went on sale for $25 It's not bright (didn't expect it to be since it's a total of 2 LEDs) so I placed it in a different spot but this is the only one that has lasted more than a month. It also comes with different mounting brackets to mount on wall and pole (vertical or horizontal). Thinking of trying the Xepa ones in this thread - it's over $100 but if it lasts, then I wouldn't mind. |

I got the $40 version from Costco long back.
Had to replace it three times. The handle that is for hanging to wall breaks very easily. Cheap construction. Range of sensor is quite limited. Failled to work after one year for no reason and I still see that current is flowing under sun when tested with ampmeter and if batteries are charged in charger, still works... |

Ya it seems for some reason quality control of solar powered outdoor lights just suck... Seems no one has had success with any one model, especially with motion detector. Don't really understand this considering I've seen cheap products handle each of those separate components fairly well on their own, but put them together into one package, not one company can step up and produce a solid light??
