How do you know how many gb you are using per month? Is there a way to check or are you sort of guessing? |

If you use torrents or any other software/hardware that requires you to use port forwarding, you need to know a couple of things in advance before subscribing to uVerse.
1) uVerse requires you to use their Gateway which is also a router. As a router it's rather half assed, and is only available with 802.11g wireless, although it does have gigabit Ethernet wired ports. 2) The uVerse Gateway's cannot be put into Bridge Mode. Ever. Never. It's not going to happen and they don't offer one that can. The best they can do is offer DMZ Plus mode, but it's not going to help you with port forwarding to your own more capable router with newer and faster wireless protocols. 3) If you don't already own your own router, but are planning to get one with 802.11n (single or dual band) or the brand new and much faster 802.11ac, DON'T! DO NOT BUY A ROUTER! Get a wireless access point with gigabit Ethernet ports and the wireless protocol you prefer. Again... Buy an ACCESS POINT and NOT a router! 4) If you already own your own router, you will need to reconfigure your own router to act as a wireless access point! If you do this, and unfortunately it's not all that simple (possibly requiring a call to your router's tech support number), you'll be able to do all the port forwarding your little heart desires. If you do not do this then you'll spend months pulling your hair out and trying everything under the sun you can think of or find online, until you finally give up and reconfigure your own router as a wireless access point. I finally have everything setup correctly, but it took me many many months of hair pulling to get to this point. Hopefully you can benefit from everything I went through to get to this point. If the above information helps folks get port forwarding truly working on their uVerse Gateway with another router, or better yet an access point, I'll be a happy camper. Enjoy! PS... Using uVerse's customer service and tech support phone tree system is one of the most awful things you'll ever experience. I'm still stuck with them, but are you really sure you want to deal with their crap? I wouldn't refer my friends to uVerse if that tells you anything... Wineaux

I live in St. Louis County and I'm actually switching from U-Verse tv/phone/internet (incl. Max Plus 18Mbps) to Charter and DirecTV.
If it's available in your area, Charter's 30Mbps for $29.99/mo for 12mos with a free modem is a much better deal. Ours was just installed today and I'm actually pulling 55Mbps pretty regularly so far with a max of around 75Mbps. They do charge $29.99 for the install which is put on the 1st bill, but considering you get double the speed for the same monthly price, IMHO it's a no-brainer.The biggest con I have about U-Verse is the RG (Residential Gateway) is a buggy piece of equipment. Ours has been more dependable than most people experience apparently, but we still have to power cycle it at least once a month now. It's also fairly easy to run a router behind the gateway; I've used both my WRT54G as well as my WNR834Bv2 behind it. |

I called 800-288-2020 at 11:45 AM PST. When asked for the reason for calling, I said "cancel Internet". I believe I was connected to the Midwest call center. I told the rep I was going to move my service over to Charter, but wanted to see if AT&T could give me some incentive to stay with them. After the initial offer which I mentioned in the post, I hesitated and asked if they had any better deals. She put me on hold for a few minutes while she talked to her manager, and came back with the deal I ended up getting. Total call took about 15-20 min. From my experience in the past, if u don't like your offer, call again until you get a rep willing to put in the extra work to find you the best deal. I have been an AT&T uverse customer since 2009. Have always been able to get some type of promo during this whole time. |

you should have gotten a $5 off... trust me live chat is the best..... ALWAYS. from my exeriences... I got a $15 instant statement credit for free , th ats right... FREE after getting locked into a 1 year contract. I missed one payment by 1 day after due date, contacted livechat and got a 5$ statement credit and I never got hit with a late fee ( the reason why i got the statement credit) , i ended up paying only $4.50 for 1 month. also, I was using a 3600 modem... the big fat modem... with livechat, they switched my old modem and I have the 3800 modem now. I tell you this, its has a sleek design and I really like it. and its skinny and very lightweight compared to the fat modem i had. pictures http://www.att.com/support_media/...roLeft.jpg |
