Thread Details

Ok if this doesn't belong here mods, please move it. Didn't know where else to put it. And I am just posting this because I personally just found out about it and utilized it for the first time. Just trying to get the word out in case people are unaware.

Basically you can get a free month of Prime if your qualifying Prime order is delivered late.

See this link [amazon.com] for details.

Qualifying for a Refund under the Guarantee

We'll automatically refund your shipping costs when we miss a delivery promise for a guaranteed order under the following qualifications:

If you choose a guaranteed shipping option advertised on a product detail page when placing your order, ship to an eligible address, and complete your order before the deadline on the product detail page, we guarantee that your items will arrive on or before the delivery dates shown at checkout. This means we will refund shipping fees associated with your items if they are not delivered to their destination on or before those dates.

If your order contains other items that aren't eligible for Guaranteed Accelerated Delivery, and you do not check the box indicating you'd like to split up your shipments, you will not be eligible for the guarantee.

For your order to qualify for Guaranteed Accelerated Delivery, your credit or debit card must be successfully charged before the deadline displayed on the product detail page.

During the checkout process, if for any reason your items no longer qualify for Guaranteed Accelerated Delivery (for example, if the order deadline passes or if inventory runs out), you will not be eligible for the guarantee.

A signature may be required for some deliveries. If this is the case, an attempted delivery on or before the guaranteed delivery date meets our delivery guarantee.
A delivery appointment may be required for some deliveries. If this is the case, an offer by the carrier of a delivery appointment on or before the guaranteed delivery date meets our delivery guarantee.

Qualifying for a Prime Extension under the Guarantee

Amazon Prime Free Trial and Annual Members can receive a free 1-month extension when the promised delivery date is not met. They will also receive a refund if they were charged for upgraded shipping. Extensions are limited to 1 per free trial and 12 for an annual membership. Note: Free Amazon Student and Amazon Mom Prime Memberships do not qualify for this extension.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

Just got my email confirmation.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear you received your order late. This usually doesn't happen.

To help make up for the inconvenience, I'm extending your Amazon Prime membership by one month. The membership will now renew on May 23, 2013.

We hope to see you again soon.

Thank you for your inquiry. Did I solve your problem?

Amazon Prime is an amazing service. So 1 out of 900 packages shows up a day late? Don't be so greedy.

thanks for that info. OP. I never try to get refund on shipping but will next time.
Have you notice, the fine print say,...Refund, "Does not apply in the event of service interruptions or failures caused by events beyond Amazon.com's control."

How's it being greedy? They are the ones who came up with the guarantee, not the OP.

AND... if it they are always on time, they have nothing to worry about, right? Stick Out Tongue

Yeah, no kidding.

And it explicitly excludes the discounted Amazon Mom and Student memberships.

So... I think 1 additional month of service isn't going to ruin their balance sheet. Wink

Thanks for mentioning this. I am still waiting for an item that was supposed to arrive last week. Plus my Prime membership year is about over.

As a side note, the UK site also will refund you the delivery charges for any item that is delivered late to the United States.

Erm, no. Not really.

I am one of those who often bumps prime shipping down from the 2 day to the standard 9 out of 10 times. I figure every dime I save Amazon will save me a few of my own dimes down the road. I've had a couple things show up late, some because of weather mostly because my mailman is head of the reject dbag civil servants club.

I haven't complained and it's unlikely I will in the future. It doesn't matter to me. Even with some screw ups the service pays for itself 10 times over and is an awesome value. For me.

It DOES matter to others. Not everybody gets the same value out of the prime.

It's not greed to expect what you paid for and were promised.

I'm with ya though. I love prime and I use it enough to know that anything Amazon keeps in it's bank account is going to work towards keeping my prime membership worth the cash.

Add on BS needs to go away though...like...now. Mad

Just had my first late delivery, although it was only one day and it was a Saturday when UPS delivered it. Based on the thumbs down, I'm assuming this was originally posted in hot deals. +1 now that it is in deal talk, as it earned me a free month.
