I've never seen a post that took so much effort to create that said so little. And just WTF does desk size have to do with a monitor!
Resolution and ppi are the most important aspects of a monitor, both for work and gaming. Higher resolution means higher productivity, and higher resolution means your games will be more naturally anti-aliased and you will have better real estate to work with. 2560x1600 WoW vs. 800x600 WoW is a good example of real estate.
So more to the point of this thread is the absurdity of 21:9. Sure some people will have a use for a monitor like this. As a programmer, I'd be better off using this monitor in portrait mode, but this wouldn't be ideal. As a gamer, I'd still rather have 16:9 or 16:10 since vertical real estate is harder to come by (usually there's stuff at the top and bottom of the screen).
Basically, all the "moar peeexels!! moooooaaarrr!" you see from people in the SD forums is BS. They just don't know what the numbers mean, when they are useful, and what to look for. Bigger isn't always better, and some numbers are more important than others.
So I understand what the numbers mean, they are especially useful on monitors since we sit closer to them, and I will be looking for high resolution monitors because really, what numbers on a monitor are more important?
