I've been watching for a used 30mm for canon on ebay and this price drop makes me want to buy it. But I've also heard about focusing issues which is what is holding me back from buying it.

This is where Canon crop and Nikon crop differ. There is no good affordable prime lens in the 35mm range for a crop body Canon that is made by Canon. Nikon has the 35mm F1.8 for < $200. If you are a Canon shooter, you get this Sigma because you don't have much alternative. But if you're a Nikon shooter, I'd just get the 35mm F1.8 for less money. The differences in image quality would be negligible and the AF on the Nikon is better.

50mm prime lenses on crop sensors are very tough to use indoors when shooting people unless you just want head shots and are not trying to fit more than 1 or 2 people in a picture. The 30-35mm range on a crop sensor camera is MUCH more useful. So whenever anyone asks me about the 35mm or 50mm lens on a crop sensor body, I say 35mm all day long.

No it won't be better. It'll be slightly better for low light given the f1.4, but the AF is better on the Nikon. And the Nikon lens is also super sharp and it's cheaper. Get the Nikon.

GOOD PRICE, but i have a full frame. Gonna pass on this although it's the cheapest it have ever been in history for this lens.

This is a higher quality lens, better build, and goes down to f1.4, at this price it's very nice. The Nikon has fast AF, and far less likely to have AF issues. If you can live with f1.8, get the Nikon. This is bigger deal for Canon users, since Canon simply doesn't have a prime wider than 50mm that's affordable. They have the 35mm f2 which is crummy, the new 35mm f2 IS which costs more than their entry-level bodies, and now the 40mm f2.8 (1.4 vs. 2.8 is a BIG difference).

There are almost never deals on Nikon lenses

Just buy the Nikon lens, it's great!

Will I get good results with my Sony NEX 5R?

You nailed it on Nikon deals! I'm watching the 35mm price for few months now and there are absolutely none (except for the used/refurbished )

I would totally get this lens if it was full frame.
