My 12 year old is using this program to learn guitar. Great way to get your kids started, as it instructs on tuning, bending, chords, etc. Good mini-games to build skills as well as the stated track list. We have the PC version, but will probably pick up one of these for the second guitar cable (you can use two at once) and the flexibility of playing in front of the tv.

Also makes for a great deal if you just need the cable (for PC version, as a replacement, or even resale).

Just did this exact same thing two weeks ago, buying and simultaneously trading-in to Amazon when this was selling there for $37.99 with a $30 TIV.

I just needed a replacement for my old cable but didn't want to fork out $30 for it.

Recommendations on a sub $50 guitar to use with this? Troll the pawn shops?

Just because you're willing to lie/cheat/steal doesn't mean it's a good idea for others. They could easily dock you for it, as you aren't giving them something that is in "good" condition like you lie and say you are.

Craigslist is your friend, but you're probably going to want to go closer to $100.

For $100 you can get a decent used guitar that is easily resold, for $50 you're going to get something really cheap with crappy resale value when/if you want to sell it in a year.

Have any of you (adults) used this as a learning tool? I played a little in high school, but you can pretty much label me a beginner since I've forgotten just about all of it. I've thought about taking lessons, but since the drive would be 30+ minutes on a good day, I know I wouldn't last long. It'd be nice to go at my own pace. I don't expect it to make me an expert, just wondering if it's a nice pick up and play tool.

I've been debating whether to get this or try some of the learning tools built in to Apple's Garage Band app for Mac. Insight from someone experienced would be great. I've tried DVDs in the past as well, but I just find myself getting annoyed at Joe Blow.

Also, are there fixes out there for the audio delay? I'll be playing on the Xbox and I've noticed that even the good reviews on Amazon [amazon.com] mention this. I'll be getting a surround sound soon, but I'd rather not have to switch between my HDMI & Component outputs all the time.

I've been playing the bass for a month now, and it's really fun. I'm 28 and have "started" to learn to play about 4 times in the past 10 years. Inevitably I'd get busy with a new job or something and take so much time off that I forgot everything I used to know.

You can start knowing absolutely nothing and it will help you be familiar with moving up and down the neck, and choosing strings, which is huge. I think some youtube or in person foundation lessons would probably be beneficial too if you ever want to be good at anything more than this game.

The latency is annoying, but it's usually a function of using digital audio. So if you don't want to switch, you might be disappointed. I bought the PC version to avoid the lag.
