I agree with the other reply that this is a REALLY good learning tool. You will learn more with this than any other method just because it is SO fun and addicting. The way it adapts to your ability mid-game is amazing. That said, I don't think it is a one stop shop if you really want to learn properly. For that, I also recommend hitting Youtube tutorials or getting real lessons. For me, I had tinkered with teaching myself for a couple years and like you would get pulled away from it and forget a lot and then come back to it. When I started using this the progress was much more rapid. Wish I could play every day but with kids,etc it doesn't happen.

Regarding audio lag. I use the Xbox 360 version. Everything I have read about the issue says its when you use the audio coming over an HDMI connection that has the issue. Personally I use an optical audio connection to my receiver and HDMI to my tv for the video and its fine. I also read that people using analog RCA (red/white) audio connections work fine too.

I also agree $50 (even used) probably won't get you there unless you know exactly what you are looking for and troll Craigs List like a hawk. Since Rocksmith handles almost all of the actual 'sound' your guitar makes for you, the two things you need more than anything is a guitar that is comfortable to play and **stays in tune**. One of the worst things about cheap guitars is they will not stay in tune vey long. That said, Rocksmith has you check your tuning constantly before just about every song or lesson you play. So if its out of whack you will know immediately and it has a built in tuner to help you adjust. Another problem with a junk guitar is it could be tuned ok for normal tuning (all strings played open - you aren't pressing any frets) but when you play notes further up the neck they can still be out of tune due to poor build standards.

I started with a Dean Vendetta I got on a Musicians Friend deal of the day for $75. I thought it was a great starter for the money. Once I knew I was gonna stick with guitar, I upgraded to a used Fender Stratocaster (not a Squire Stratocaster by Fender) and feel like I can use it for a long long time. Another starter guitar I would recommend is the Peavey Rockmaster. Got one for my daughter during a $25 Target sale but even at $100 its a decent guitar for the money. Factory strings aren't great but it shouldn't matter for Rocksmith and with any guitar you should learn how to change them yourself anyway (its fun).

Been wanting the Bass expansion since buying the regular version and seeing that would have been 2,400 Microsoft Points this is the better deal since it has the cable.

Yes, they have the same price currently for the PS3 but not for the Xbox 360 (showing $52.91 but being Amazon could change after I post).

Yeah, just submitted the price match for the 360 version so we'll see if they'll match it.

Says free shipping but when I go to check out it only offers in store pick up. Am I doing something wrong here? Time spent making a special trip to pick up kills the deal for me.

I got this recently for my xbox. To get rid of any lag I purchased an audio adaptor to plug in along with my hdmi. I just turn the tv volume down and have this plugged into my sound bar (any external sound will do). I also got a adaptor so I can plug my headphones right into the cables. The headphones are not amplified and there is no volume control, but there is enough volume that I can hear exactly what I'm doing. Great game, great motivator!
