Does that mean it is older technology becuase it has the "g" in there? I need a new wireless router, but would prefer not to step back.

Nope, it means it can do both, so you're in luck.

Also, this only has fast ethernet, aka megabit ethernet. A lot of routers have gigabit ethernet, which gives it theoretically a 10x speed increase. This is useful if you transfer files around a wired home network (aka multiple devices plugged into the router), but otherwise probably won't affect you (because your internet speed won't be faster than fast ethernet can handle).

This looks like a pretty good deal though. If you need a new router, this is a very low price for one with these features.
