Rebate prepaid card negative balance

Hey everyone,

I have a question regarding negative prepaid rebate card balances. I got a $400 prepaid card from the T4i/printer deal a while back and just recently used it. I charged a dinner and an eBay purchase on it, but apparently the dinner charge didn't clear before the ebay transaction and some misc fee put the card into a negative balance. I'm currently at -$5.65 on the prepaid AMEX card. Should I be paying this back, even though I don't have an AMEX account? Will this damage my credit rating? This is a non-refillable card, and I don't really know how this works because I've never dealt with one before. Any input is appreciated.

i called once to ask and what i was told was as long as its just a couple of dollars they wont demand repayment and it wont effect your credit. this was for a visa rebate prepaid card though. so you might want to call the number on the card and see what amex says.

Thanks for the info. I figured, regardless of what the amount owed, they would ask for repayment. Paying this balance isn't an issue as much as going through the hassle of dealing with it is.

was it a tip that they took out and will soon replace by chance that happened to me once they charged their own tip and then refunded it back to the card.
