I am thinking the same. If more people thought like us, then it's going to happen. I can't wait for Dell to sell these for $550 as a regular price.

the way I see it... If I got this monitor right now, I would need a second video card possibly to game a good frame rates. Currently have a single nvidia GTX 570 2gb. That would incur yet more $$$. I have an old Dell 24" 1920 x 1200 right now. I will bite when it is $550 or so. I'd rather have this monitor than the Korean ones. Looks nicer, has a better warranty, and has more inputs too.

A good monitor lasts through multiple generations of video cards. Also you could play many games on windowed mode and use the remaining space for a multitude of things, as well as figure that you don't just have to use it for games. Extra real estate on a monitor is great for just about anything.
The korean competition will drive the price lower on this, as well as the LCD high gamut (2711) has been at this exact price and the upgraded version of this monitor (2713H) is out now. I might bite if this monitor was at a 400$ price point.

You might need a 2nd card depending on the eye candy you enable. I have a cheap ass Korean ips and I had to get a 2nd 7950 to turn on all eye candy. Even then, I couldn't pull max settings in FarCry3 due to crossfire issues. The game would crash when I threw rocks lol.

Sleeping Dogs with the Extreme texture pack and highest settings on everything except AA (set to High and not Extreme) is smooth. It still chokes up a bit in certain areas of the game though.

We're seriously a ways off for a single GPU card to handle this resolution with everything on and get smooth FPS.

my spider sense is telling me these will hit 400-500 range this holidays season.

i have a U2711. got in for the $150 off 599 amex deal and bought this. can't be happier that I upgraded (but coming from a 2407FPW I kinda wish I had the moolah for a 30")

Prices will go down. I am running a 660Ti OC and I know it won't be able to handle this resolution in Ultra settings. So, I will keep my 1080p monitor until I found a good price on BF for another 660ti and then I'll be start looking on prices for this monitor. I hope it'll be < $500 by next year..

It also has a nicer stand which is worth the extra ~$40-50. I might settle with dual 24 inch displays. This way I'll have more real estate when I'm using programs and turn off a monitor and max out games if I wanted.

I wouldn't mind getting a GTX 680 and turning a few settings down, especially AA. I used to praise SLI and Xfire setups but the stuttering when FPS is under 60 is too much for me to handle.

If you haven't, I highly suggest you try an SLI setup first before making that purchase.

Let's say I had this monitor and scaled a game down to some other 16:9 resolution like 1920x1080. Would it look the same on this as it would on a monitor with 1920x1080 as its native resolution or would things not look quite as nice?

Or just get a dual 7990/690 setup, I hear the more gpus you throw at a xFire/SLI, the stuttering disappears
