For those who don't have a Pepboys nearby, Costco has 6 qt Mobil 1 for $27 after instant rebate

I actually think the normal Walmart price on Mobil 1 extended performance is the same as this deal: $25 for 5-qt jug plus $15 for filter. If it's the same quality as Royal Purple, then I would only call this a slick deal if someone doesn't have a Walmart around (or if someone is partial to Royal Purple over Mobil 1)
It's all debatable. There are hundreds of threads with back and forth arguments over it. Supposedly the Mobil 1 5w and 10w you get in jugs at walmart is not the same quality as the 0w-40 (long life euro) which runs more expensive and doesn't come in 5qt jugs (per a Mobil oil rep). This royal purple is supposed to be in line with the higher end synthetics like the 0w-40 but at the same time, is not included in the list of acceptable long life oils per Euro standards.

There are definitely die hard Royal Purple users out there that won't use anything else and for them, this is a pretty good deal.

Wait, are you guys doing oil changes on synthetic Mobile 1 every 4-5k miles? I thought you can go up to 10k? I mean, it defeats the whole purpose of using synthetics over conventional if you're doing regular intervals...or am I missing something here?

Thanks for the clarification! I didn't know that. I like the price of the 5w30 Mobil 1 at Walmart, and it's high enough quality for me. However, that doesn't mean that it's good enough for everyone.

If I switch to the Synthetic oil for my Odyssey, can I not use regular oil anymore?

You sure can, its a myth saying that you cant switch to and from synthetic.

Personally I would just get castrol/penzoil or whatevers onsale for around $30 or less with prueone filter

Royal Purple to motor oil is like Monster to A/V equipment. Pure hype and marketing!

Check your owners manual. Most vehicle manufacturers recommend oil changes in the 7,500 - 10,000 mile range now a days for even regular oil. Many people still go by the 3,000 mile thing which is outdated for most modern vehicles.

I have an 04 Camry and it's every 5k. I'm putting in Mobile 1 to extend it to 10k (with a oil filter change at every 5k still). I think it's sufficient. Although my BMW asks for 12k changes, I still do it at 8k-9k.

You're not missing anything. Some people do it "just to be safe".

Yea more than enough for 95% of vehicles. Used those jugs up until I bought a BMW and switched for warranty purposes mainly.

Yeah that makes sense. I used to use synthetics back in the day in my built up cars. But seriously I think regular oil is better now than the syns i used back then. They are great if you actually abuse your engines but it just doesn't make sense for most people who drive regularly.

Pepboys had a better deal last month (5Qt. Mobil1 and filter) for $30 and they carry 0w-40.
