The best free HSF available at Newegg today :)
FIFY![]() Well... no, it doesn't, does it? ![]() If your i7 is one of the 45-65W models with an 'S' or 'T' suffix on the end of the model number and you want a cheap 'get-by,' this ![]() Like ledoantri, though, this wouldn't be my first thought for any i7. Your Zalman sounds promising · depending on it's rating · if it fits. |

Bought two last week and they do look cheap. They have the push plugs that are a PITA to install. I was hoping it was one that had a screw on backplate. I'd only get this if you buy 1155/1156 OEM chips that come without a heatsink. I think that you'd be happier waiting for a deal in the $10-15 range for your i7. It would be quieter and have more OC potential. Even if you don't OC, the chip should run cooler. This is really not a great heatsink unless you need one for an OEM chip. Realized I needed another pair of fans for my project, so I guess I am getting these and crossing my fingers for all of the rebates.
Does anyone have any suggestions on using two of these fans to sandwich something, is there a good way to connect them to each other? I am using peltier chips, and I want to use two fans to separate the hot and cold sides effectively. Last edited by adamant; 02-02-2013 at 12:55 PM.. |

I appreciate the helpful replies, thank you!
It's the Zalman CNPS7000B-CU [newegg.com] from the P4 Prescott days, with a 775 adapter later purchased separately. It's been a good cooler to me on 2 different builds, though the weight's always made me a bit nervous. The cpu is this i7-3770k [microcenter.com]since I was lucky enough to be near a MC with a coupon making it a better deal than usual. If the Zalman ends up being a bad idea (it did come out in 2003 I believe), then I definitely won't be skimping on the next cooler.

i7-2600K is 95W Link [intel.com] Since the CNPS7000B-CU will handle a P4 Prescott it should certainly handle anything modern rated 95W. The fan won't last forever, though. How long you been using it? (rhetorical Q )CNPS7000B-CU manual (pdf) download available here. The HSF in this deal is "rated" 90W or so, so it "should" "handle it." Alpine 7 PRO [arctic.ac] Can't imagine this is much better, if any, but I'll leave the definitive "is it better than a stock fan" answer for someone that has experience with the stock i7 HSF. tl;dr: Someone with an i7 really needs to answer this. |

I picked up the last deal for a cheap - rebate postage and time - set of PWM fans. The boxed Arctic Cooling case fans of this design that I have are pretty nice. Now I'll have to actually open the rebate items up and look at them.
![]() OK, done. As a PWM fan it has a nice set of integrated mounting clips that very well might let you use this to replace a loud or non-PWM fan on a cheaper cooler. Look at the Newegg photo carefully, instead of the dual clips on each side many fans use to clip to the heat sink, these use one clip in the middle of the two facing sides, which means using it with a different HS might be easier (you're only worried about the fit of two versus four clips). I have a couple of 92mm HS this might work on, but I don' feel like playing "take apart my stack of cases and crack that one open" tonight. To use this as a case fan will require some modding, and I don't need them THAT badly. The problem is that once you cut off the clips, the base does not sit flat. There is no easy way to drill holes for the screws. Getting it to mount as a case fan will be a pain, trust me. The base was completely designed and contoured around the HS and then they mounted the fan on that. This works given Arctic's peculiar low vibration/noise mounting system on their open cage fans. I'm not at all upset I purchased the first pair of these coolers - the fan mechanism itself does look identical to my boxed Arctic Cooling fan, just the mount is different. It is not worth the effort for the mods, etc. now that I know what I'd be getting into. Still an excellent deal. Klaatu: I'm impatient with stupidity. My people have learned to live without it.

![]() Another SD buddy of mine, kris259, does a lot of bundle deals. For example: a couple of pairs of earbuds, laptop case/backpack, etc. all for a set price. Sometimes people see more value in a package deal than they do with individual items. Plus it saves you time unloading the items individually, which might be more hassle than it's worth. I stockpile a lot of stuff and donate others. Like I'll buy the toasters & irons at TigerDirect for FAR and donate them to Goodwill or a homeless shelter... or I'll give them to a family friend going away to college. You never know when some of the stuff will come in handy. A lot of the stuff comes in handy around Christmas time as stocking stuffers.

Yea I remember people talking about donating all the walgreens stuff that they would snatch off the shelves for FAR or register whatever... it didnt really occur to me that you can get that kinda stuff FAR online. I may start trying to do this, although I seem to be my own worst enemy when it comes to rebates. I think I will try the FAR fans first since I can try to get rid of the fans easier. Since im on the IL side of STL it makes me more hesitant about buying from TD since I have to pay tax. I think you and a few of the other FAR posters have almost broken my phobia of TD that my friend implanted in my brain a few years back.

I hate things like that... where companies charge you tax when you have no benefit of having their retail stores. Like here, I get charged tax at Staples... and the closest one is either Columbia, MO; Jefferson City, MO; or Jacksonville, IL. I can never get all the FAR paper deals or any of the good stuff... Aren't you in Southern IL? I thought I remember seeing you talking about clearance items at Target or something. A few times I've crossed the border to snag some clearance items (Logitech Harmony Remotes). ![]() Glad we were able to break your phobia of TigerDirect deals. They have a lot of good deals when you get past that. Unfortunately, they screwed over a lot of SDers on TV deals, MIRs (in the past - not now), and a lot of people have sworn off buying from them ever again. Just goes to show you what poor management practices will do to your brand over time. You'll see some haters in almost every TigerDirect thread... I usually try to play damage control.
