I may also return the subwoofer, and opt for a different version, we'll see. |

Funny. Same boat and then some. Bought the HK two weeks ago. Pieced together 7.1 pioneer speakers for $240. "Completed" my system with a $95 Samsung HW d7000za AVR with 3D BR player (weird huh?) to replace the HK Friday morning--in fact I had not been back from the BB store 30 minutes when I saw this deal. . .and still had to order.
I'm not sold on the HK. It's their first crack at a budget digital switching amp (they've done commercial ones for $$$) and have been fire sale priced from a little over a month after release (yes including the holidays--but maybe this was their "walmart xmas variant" attempt). I will be returning this one. If I hadn't just pieced everything else together, it would be a no brainer to keep this Onkyo system for $150. Its for a Bedroom theater after all--don't need to fill 500+ feet with sound. Did you have speakers picked out to go with the HK? Pricewise pretty apples and oranges as the HK is $50 more than the whole Onkyo system. And the HK will end up being $400 or more. If this Sammy works out, I am out $350 total for a 7.1 setup with 2 floorstanding, 5.25 center, and 4 bookshelves. If I wanted to pare down the total, could make it 5.1 and put the last two speakers in the living room system. . .$300. It has a 3D BR player that does 2D>>>3D conversion (worth $50) plus it has wifi, smarthub, etc etc. I'm really looking at $200-250 cost in comparison and that works for me. If it were more for home theater and your space was not too large I would save the $$ and go with the Onkyo. If nothing else it would buy you a year or two to piece together several "deals of the year" for the replacement, which would probably be worth the $150. BTW, the HK is not one of these! 5 minutes after I ordered this Onkyo system, I saw they dropped the Onkyo Rc-430 receiver to $140. Probably would have been a better buy for me. At least I wouldn't be pondering returning the Pioneer speakers. &#*@*$ SD (and thanks also) Slickest: 1 Penny for new Epson Artisan 835 printer!!
