Yeah, I went ahead and hooked up component cables from the receiver to the tv, but like you said I now have to switch between inputs on the receiver... and the TV. More work for little benefit, so I'll probably just hook the Wii back to the TV directly. Not like the kids really need HT sound to play Skylanders/Mario/etc. anyways

If you are running a digital coaxial or optical from your TV to the receiver you can listen to your Wii through that when the Wii is connected directly to the TV.

Hey guys I just set my up and I can't get the mini speakers or center speaker to work any clue? I got the other two speakers to work I don't know whats wrong. . .I try my ipod to a the aux port and my PS3 but i still cant hear the mini and center.

Do you have it on direct or stereo? Try some of the other sound modes, such as multi-channel.

I got it on Home Dimensional

the RHID and Audio TV Out is "Off" and I test out the speakers with the wire to the a different port (the speaker port that is working) and it works.

I noted that the surround speakers often don't have a lot of unique sounds coming from them, but when I played music, their sound became more obvious. But most of the dialogue audio on the TV shows I watched came from the center, so play with the settings.

From the Troubleshooting section of the receiver manual -

â–_The surround speakers produce no sound
When the T-D (Theater-Dimensional), Stereo or
Mono listening mode is selected, the surround
speakers produce no sound. p. 22
Depending on the source and current listening mode,
not much sound may be produced by the surround
speakers. Try selecting another listening mode. pp. 21–22

Make sure the speakers are configured correctly. p 29

the sp config is dimmed out so I can't do anything with that. I try playing a PS3 game that has Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround. I looked up the info and it said Input 5.1 output 2.1

yay I got it to work, I had to set it to A speaker only. I was on A/B the entire time.

I use an antenna to get OTA local channels and have a PS3. I was planning on hooking PS3 to receiver via HDMI and receiver to my TV (no ARC) via HDMI.

Since this receiver doesn't upconvert video, is my only option to get audio when watching TV with antenna to use an optical cable from TV to the receiver?

Why should I use the receiver's HDMI in & out? I originally had everything plugged into the back of the TV & ran a optical cable out to my old receiver. Tonight I just hooked up the new system & simply plugged in the optical cable output from the TV. Is there a benefit to running all my sources through the receiver first & then out to the TV? Thanks.

That's how I set mine up.

I also set up my Logitech Harmony 300 remote so when I push the "Watch TV" button it turns the TV on, then turns the receiver on, then changes the receiver to TV mode (which I set to look for optical audio). If you don't have a Harmony, I recommend getting one.

Why not RCA cables? I've done that for years. Or do newer TV's not have RCA audio out?

If you're talking about the red and white RCA plugs, you won't get 5.1 surround out of those.

Now that you mention it, I don't think my TV has L/R RCA audio out, just optical and coax (which is an RCA cable).

Most newer TV's don't have RCA analog audio jacks anymore. Most will have optical or digital coaxial, which will give you 5.1 audio.
