Can anyone confirm what the actual P/N is on this? Rebate is only valid for CP-9020046-NA.

There are several reviews indicating they received an item w/ a different number and were subsequently denied the rebate. I'm already on the fence, guaranteed additional rebate hassle will probably push be over.

Careful with the rebate on this. The rebate is for UPC CP-9020046-NA but sometimes Newegg sends out CP-9020046-US. It's the same power supply but the UPC is different. There was the same offer for the same UPC in December and when I sent my rebate in a few weeks ago it was denied because the UPC didn't match. I noticed that before sending it in and was worried about it. Thankfully when I contacted Newegg customer support chat and they refunded the $20 difference.

The rebate customer support chat person (who I was chatting with at the same time as Newegg) kept repeating the same BS that the UPC didn't match. After many attempts at explaining the situation to her I got mad and told her this is why everyone hates rebates. Surprisingly it worked, and she escalated it. An hour or so later my rebate changed to "valid and is scheduled for final processing" so I might end up getting the power supply for free AR.

Yeah, it's also a mobile processor as noted by the M and the fact I said "laptop". I was just pointing out that the i3 desktop processors often are as good or better than i5 laptop versions. Of course the *desktop* version of the i5 is better than the i3, that goes without saying...

I don't think that you will if you're talking about performance to be perfectly honest (especially if you go with the i3). It will potentially be easier to make the system much more quiet and it will use less power/ put off less heat (22nm architecture vs 40nm). Before all the Intel "fanboys" jump in, I just upgraded from a AMD Phenom II ( very similar to yours but it was 3.5GHz) to an i5-3570K. The WEI (for windows 7) went from a 7.4 to a 7.6. Most everyday tasks seem about the same. It did improve the speed of my MKV conversions a bit but it certainly didn't double (if a conversion took about 40/45 minutes, it's like 30/35 now). For some reason my RAM jumped up to 7.9 from 7.7 with the exact same speed and timings settings in the old system (probably similar to how people report their GPUs to perform a little better with an Ivy Bridge). Just some food for thought. It's not like you have a slouch of a PC right now so you might want to hold off for another year and look at the next gen intels then (the prices should've stabilized by then). It might be $ better spent toward a SSD or GPU.

Well right now I have the AMD Phenom II X4 920 (2.80 GHz), 4GB DDR2 RAM, SATAII HD for boot drive. I'm going to the Ivy Bridge i3-3225, 8GB DDR3 1600 and I will be getting an SSD for my boot drive. I think it will be a major step up from what I have now, and everything was very cheap. My WEI right now is only a 4.1.

Just to tell you WEI doesn't mean anything. If one switches to an i5 they won't see much performance increase in everyday tasks. The phenom can handle that just fine. But when you start using cpu intesive programs, you will see a huge difference. Now if you want to increase gaming fps and have a crappy gpu, your money will be better invested in a new gpu than getting a new processor.

This unit regularly comes on sale for under $20, and it's a steal at that price. I have one in my HTPC and one in my wife's desktop, recommend them to my friends, and have a spare in the closet for troubleshooting. My only complaint is a rather odd interaction of certain Gigabyte FM1 motherboards, dual core Llano processors, and this power supply. If you don't add a peripheral like a hard drive or video card, the system doesn't pull enough current on start-up. The power supply thinks there is a problem and shuts itself down.

Johnny Guru [jonnyguru.com] performs some of the most comprehensive power supply reviews on the net. He gave this model full points on the "value" part of his review when it was priced at $45.
