To me, and most others, going to a new version of an os is a huge deal. Vista, 7, and 8 are the very same os at the core. Everything Microsoft has done for 8 could be patched to 7 and even Vista will little effort. Killing off Vista and now 7 has nothing to do with technical merits but rather a business decision by the bean counters. 7 came out basically to kill off the bad press of Vista and now 8 is to try and leverage Microsoft's os dominance on home computers in an attempt to bust intothe hot mobile tablet market. Well that and to make more $$$ suckering us to rebuying what amounts to the same os over and over. |

I might understand his frustration with the gestures though, but I experienced no such problems on a mouse for the five hours or so I have used the operating system. If it really does work that way and he is not exaggerating, it should be addressed. |

I was hesitant moving over to W8 but now that I'm running it I like it! Everything seems a bit tad faster, with my ssd sign on screen is up within ~10 seconds. Windows 7 has been pretty solid though and I'm beginning to grow on W8, got to learn some new ways of doing things

Can you help explain and demonstrate how the Control, Conveyance, Continuity, and Context of Windows 8 is superior to Windows 7? |

Just think about it. When your kids go to by their first PC what is it more likely they will have experience with, Windows 7 or an Xbox? I don't imagine many children are learning to "produce content" on a personal computer as they are growing up. Is it perfect? Not in the least, however, I believe it is a step toward the future. Also, once you learn the interface you lose very little productivity, if any, and I believe after a certain point you gain productivity. |

This is great, and thanks for posting these... but I still have to wonder, why pay money to break something, then pay more money to fix it, to end up with basically the same product with more third-party programs running? Is there any compelling reason for the desktop user without a touchscreen to use Windows 8? It just seems to be really geared towards tablets and touchscreen devices only. |

I have the windows 8 Pro product key and Media Center product key. I don't plan on upgrading right away (need to figure out the incompatible apps first). Am I going to have issues with Media Center install when I'm ready to install both (maybe one or two months down the line)? I thought having the product key should guarantee that I can install without any issues. I can be totally wrong on this.

I love the condescending resistant to change argument. I liken that to chefs who have been trained for years to work with knives but now are told to use power saws to do their work, and if they resist, just make them feel like neanderthals who are slow to change. In trying to dumb it down for the masses, Microsoft did the opposite by making the Windows 8 interface a hassle to relearn. In previous versions of Windows, you know where the control panel was, but in 8, it's hidden. You gotta learn a new key combination to make it appear, like a magic word because abracadabra just isn't working anymore. Why is that "upgrade" necessary? I firmly believe in the age old wisdom that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
As for the colors and tiles, it's horrendously ugly. The people who created that interface should be fired for lack of artistic creativity. |

I can't point to the facts that state that these things are all spot on accurately done by Microsoft, but I know it takes more than thirty minutes to learn a new operating system. The fact of the matter is he didn't want to learn it. Since he is a professional, he should have stuck to his original plan and given the operating system time. Maybe it would have grown on him. I gave it five hours and anything that I couldn't find I realized that I just needed to search from the Charms Bar. I didn't even know it was called that, but I guess he took the time to learn that rather than its functionality. Then, if it was going to be something I needed to access often, I could pin it the same as in Windows 7. It was an entertaining cartoon, and it probably took him longer to make it than he took trying to learn Windows 8. |
