I guess SGS3 has been lower; but this deal has no MIR which is sweet

not worth it...especially when new phones are about to kick the door in, in about 2 months or so. then prices will drop and a plethora of new phones flooding the market

Dear Lord! If you cannot afford a fancy cell phone without getting a contract, you cannot afford the phone...

2-year agreements are the worst thing for your wallet. I saw one article that stated if you buy an iPhone 5 yourself and go with prepaid (and there are many great carriers doing prepaid), you go into the black after 11 months--that's 13 months of savings over the 2-year contract duration.

I did this:

Buy a Pantech Burst AT&T GSM smartphone on ebay for about $100 (try to get it unlocked or unlock it yourself). Aside from poor battery life, the phone is amazing for $100 (free upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich). I call it my $100 iPhone killer and my family and friends all jumped on with me. Most of us use PlatinumTel REAL PayGo ($.05/min. calls; $.02/text or MMS; $.10/mb data) or similar. I now use GoogleVoice and GrooVe IP and make most calls on WiFi for free (and they sound great).

That is a very low cost, high tech solution.

If you like it less "techy," get an T-mobile $30 unlimited plan:

Straight Talk BYOD or similiar. Don't feed the majors--it just encourages them to rip you off!

Anyone who like postpaid will stick with postpaid. It is like paying mortgage for something. There is no harm if you don't want to keep jumping from one service to another.
I haven't done much research but most of the prepaid I know do not have unlimited night and weekends calling, No free calls between same provider, Not good network, And unlimited everything is not cheap (except straight talk).

If you "haven't done much research," then how can you tell me I'm off base when I have done a TON of research into this. As I stated, I have all my family/friends switched as their contracts expire.

Much of what you state simply is not true or germane to the discussion here (like who cares about nights and weekends or friends/family when you have unlimited minutes?).

Also, I never said your deal is "bad," just that contract plans are evil...

I agree with healthylaugh, I am on prepaid plan and upgrade my phone almost eveyr 12 -18 months. I take out extra 20$ each month pretending I am on contract and upgrade my phone as needed and sell the old one on craigslist without having to wait for 2 yrs to expire or pay full price when I have lost my phone in some cases

Nice deal. I'm currently using a iPhone 4S on Tmo, and eligible for full upgrade. This is appealing to flip for profits. Possible flip along with my 4S and get an unlocked 5. Hmmm....

I'd expect resale prices to drop quite a bit with the availability of the unlocked Nexus 4 for $300... It's not a coincidence this deal pops up the same week google resumes shipments of Nexus 4 and prepaid carriers are in a price war...

would be nice if i didnt have to choose a required data plan. was hoping to sell it!
