Tamron 18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 AF DI-II LD IF Lens For Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax SLR Cameras $199 + free shipping

No VR capability, I take it? Max aperture is 3.5 which is similar to the Nikon 18-300 lens. Is it 1/10th of the price of Nikon 18-200 because it has no VR and is all plastic or is there more to it?

if you're talking about canon, 18-135 lens is a good one. If you want a zoom lens, i think the best bang for the buck is the 70-300. Yea, the 70-300 is pricey, but take if from a person who bought a lot of cheap lens before thinking "it can't be that much of a difference." Save yourself some money and go with a lens you know you'll like.

Damn I thought this could be an alternative to Pentax 18-135 but don't think quite lives up to par.

I have the EF Canon 18-200 lens. Thought it would come in handy. I used it once, been sitting in a box ever since. What's my point? Yeah, it's terribly handy to have, but the image quality doesn't cut it. For crop I use the 15-85 now, and for full frame the 24-105 or 24-70 2.8. Yeah, less range, but the images are sharp and crisp.
I guess at $200 it's worth a try, and you can sell it for at least that on Craigslist if you don't like it.

I have the Canon mount Tamron 18-250, came with the hood. I think they discontinued it. I haven't even used it so it's still in the box...lol. Ah well, I'm gonna ebay it anyways because it won't work on a full frame.

This would be pretty good for someone who just wants to take one lens. It likely will be a little soft on the far end but that's the trade-off for most super zooms.

Anyon know how this compares to the Sigma 18-200mm DC OS HSM for Nikon?

The Canon 70-200 F4L is $559 at Amazon. Lowest price ever. Bought one earlier today.

Heck for $3 more you can get the lens, hood, UV filter and cleaning kit on the same site.

The sigma will be much better because of the vibration reduction (OS). With that large of a range there will be distortion at certain zooms but my Canon 18-200 has been pretty nice as a versatile lens when i can't be dealing with lens swapping (my buddy feels the same with his 18-200 nikkor).

Thanks. I needed a little reassurance after purchasing one yesterday. Its a huge lens and I can understand there's a little distortion and even vignetting and extreme distances. But I got it for $190 practically new and been looking for an verstile everyday lens and the Nikon 18-200VR is just too much. Even on CL!
