Trader Joe's has their own organic virgin coconut oil as well. 16 oz. I believe it is $5.99 so beats this price as well. I have a feeling TJ's is made possibly by Nutiva or equivalent name brand.

From what I've seen those are generally not unrefined, cold-pressed, and organic which are all things that generally make an oil more expensive (and arguably healthier).

That being said, Costco here in MN has a 54 oz jar of cold-pressed organic oil for $15.99 so this doesn't seem like a great price to me.

The reason for the price difference is processing.

You can pick Louana (31 oz) up at a Kroger (or walmart) for about 8 bucks and there's always a louana coupon in redplum.

If you need some for skin purposes I suppose Louana is a decent buy.


But the cheap stuff is usually not high quality and is mostly useless for cooking, as it has no flavor. You still get the healthy coconut oil side effects, though. Make sure you find virgin oil if you want the flavor.

Can be used for a variety of things... 1) Skin moisturizing 2) Hair oil 3) Cooking 4) Mixing it in Salads & Foods 5) In place of K-Y stuff and so on...

If you are new to trying coconut oil in foods, go with their 16 oz version first (available at amazon). Price difference per oz isn't still too bad.
