I actually own a 2011 Kia Optima (and like it), but i'd only get one of these if I could use it at places other than the dealership. They are pretty competitive on oil changes, but other than that, dealership servicing is a ripoff, unless its covered under warranty.

i tried doing a partial ebay payment online and it failed. i then tried doing a partial sprint payment online and that failed too. so i think the card processor has some restriction on type of business that will be approved? good thing i didn't redeem too many rewards on this. i got enough to get some tires at the dealership (for my non kia) so i'm going to have to go that route now. |

as i and another poster suspect, it may be due to the card processor only approving transactions from a particular category. i highly doubt all kia dealerships have the same card processor, and there may be multiple dealerships under the same owner/company so a purchase at a legitimate kia dealership might not even say kia on it. so it may work at a honda or toyota dealership, auto repair shop, or whatever, but we don't know for certain. |

i tried my square reader (physical swipe) and it declined as well. i did some more research and i'm pretty sure it goes by the Merchant Category Code (MCC). i looked at the list and i'm assuming it'll only work based on these two codes: 5511 Car & Truck Dealers (New & Used) Sales, Service, Repairs Parts and Leasing 5521 Car & Truck Dealers (Used Only) Sales, Service, Repairs Parts and Leasing |

If they can make it work for only a categories then why can't they make it work only for kia dealers and reject everybody else. Cashback bonus is different because that happens after positing the purchase in particular categories but i haven't seen any decline based on categories or particular merchants. Probably Discover has some new way of making it happen.

as for your 2nd statement, cashback bonus is based on the same system since it goes by a particular MCC. for example, mcdonalds is classified under fast food, and walmart is classified as a discount retailer, even if you purchase stuff on their grocery side. as for an opposite example, most restaurants inside a hotel will be classified as hotels and not dining (e.g., CPK inside mirage las vegas is not categorized as a restaurant - i know because i didn't get 5% CB). read the last sentence on discover's CB bonus fine print: "If a purchase is coded for a category other than those listed above, it will not qualify." |

I think it will work with other auto dealers besides kia... So If you have a vehicle and want service done on it, then it will work... Not bad having 50% off.. i am going to do a oil change at my honda dealer and use the card.... i think it will work no problems.
