there may be several MCCs within a general cashback category but it's common sense. for example, mcdonald's or starbucks would be considered fast food at 5814, whereas olive garden or red lobster would be a restaurant at 5812, but they all fall under the restaurant range of MCCs that's allowable by the credit card. the only establishments you may run into trouble are maybe 2nd tier establishments (e.g., starbucks inside a barnes and noble or target, restaurants inside a hotel, etc.). for more info on MCC, go to http://mcc-codes.findthedata.org/ |

I disagree. I usually buy new or very old ( 5-10 years old with low miles). If you buy 1-3 years old, you're better off buying New. 1st, there are lots of deals when buying new, incentives from manufacturers, also 0% APR or low APR financing compared to a used car. For example, I paid $34k for a brand new infiniti G37XS with premium package, and some accessories. 2 years later, I check kbb value, it was valued at $35k for private party sale. oh, the $34k includes all taxes and fees. This is the type of comparison I always do before buying new and it is always cheaper buying new with high resale value vehicles. if the vehicle does not have a high resale, then maybe you're right. now, I also bought a 10 year old BMW 3 series Convertible for $15k and brand new was around $50k+. That's a good deal for older vehicle, but of course I still regretted it coz after buying it, it kept Burning My Wallet = BMW with maintenance after maintenance. Of all my life of owning vehicles, I've never had a 10 year old vehicle where the entire computer board had to be replace. German Junk. |

![]() I bought my second new car 4 years ago. After 33000 miles in 4 year, it is still holding 70% of the value (current kbb dealer price) due to the incentives I received. Indeed, the kbb value was higher than my purchase price during the first 2 years. In addition, it generally has higher resale value for vehicles with a single previous owner. |

I tried using the KIA gift card at my Infiniti dealership. The cashier tried running the card twice, but it was rejected both times. This dealership would likely have an MCC (near?) identical to a KIA dealership, so clearly Discover has done their homework and seems to have made these only redeemable at KIA (as per the T&Cs). If anyone has any further input here, I would love to hear it. Still a great deal and KIA will be changing the oil on my Infiniti for at least through the next year...

If anyone doesn't want their cards, I would be willing to buy them for the CB amount plus a small profit. PM me if interested.
