What the heck?! You get an F in personal finance. What matters is the absolute amount of money you save, not the percentage. In this case, you would save the SAME AMOUNT whether you got the kia gift card or the gas cards ($1000 in savings). Assuming you were actually going to buy a kia car, you would be better off with the Kia gift card since the savings could be realized immediately but $2000 in gas cards would take more than a year to spend since there are so few shell gas stations around (I still have a shell gift card from the previous promotion).

well they do sell used cars as well that are not kias so that might help someone..

Anybody can get their oil changed there. My local dealership is offering $18.95 oil & filter changes. Consider this half-off gift card and that gives us a $9.50 oil & filter change!

i have my wifes kia serviced at the local dealer, this makes changes less than $15, not too bad for a change and a car wash.

Any idea whether they put one's name on the gift card? I wouldn't mind redeeming my points for one of these and selling it, but I'd rather not be stuck with it...

I have received many different types of gift cards from Discover and none had my name on it.

While we are thinking about additional savings, we can consider the bonus savings on interest if the gift cards are used as a down payment on a new car loan.

This may be a good deal for 1/2 price tires

I'm not at all sure of this. It could be hard to find one. There might only be a couple dealerships in one's geographical area. From the T&C, paying with this is basically like paying with a Discover card. That means the dealer takes a sizable percentage hit. And if you paid for a new car solely using Discover, that would theoretically add a year to the manufacturer warranty. When's the last time you bought a new car and tried to put it on a credit card? They will say no.

Buying service or parts is totally different. They will gladly accept credit card payments for that.
