I have been looking for the best deal on a Windows tablet and came across these guys on Viewsonic's factory store:

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Tablet - $299
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...-10pi.html

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Ready Tablet - $149
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...no-os.html

Viewsonic must be blowing these out, because the cheapest price I could find for the $299 version with Windows 7 pre-installed is $499.99 on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-V...ewpad+10pi

I was able to buy that $39.99 Windows 8 upgrade special from Microsoft before it expired yesterday and was thinking about using that to do a clean install on the $149 version of this Viewsonic 10pi. That would give me a Windows 8 tablet for under $200.

What do you think? Does anyone know of a better deal out there on a Windows tablet?

Look at this

Sders r buying like crazy

1ghz, 512mb ram,android 2.3.

What am I missing comparing this $79 tablet to Viewsonic?
The Viewsonic uses an x86 chip so it can run Windows. It's larger, heavier, has a higher resolution display (though lower density), has 4 times as much RAM, 4 times as much storage, Full size USB (and other ports), it's brand new (not refurbished), and it costs twice as much.

Now that I made the list, the only similarities are the form factor and the version of android installed. Otherwise these couldn't be more different.

Found a review of the tablet buyers might like to see (or the trolls; thread appears to be about 50/50). Note: the video is awful; the guy essentially just reads the review while holding the tablet, doesn't use it or even turn it, you're just looking at some splash screen (ok, he clicks a button on the top and then touches the screen). Confirms what I thought: this is a windows tablet, not an android tablet; and the screen is apparently a fingerprint magnet. One little tidbit that I hadn't read elsewhere: this thing's efficiency is exceptional; 6.5 hours of use on one charge.

No sir... Im sorry, but its not mSATA... it was a SATA SSD bout the size of a credit card. (I believe that's the 1.8"?) I thought it was at first, ordered a mSATA when I decided to remove the partition, and I was wrong.

It was kind of tricky to get into it. Again, there should be a youtube out there of how to do it...
Hmm, not sure what I feel about it being half-slim sata. If it were mSATA then parts will be plentiful, making tinkering with it more meaningful. Cursory search on Google shows not much half-slim available anywhere, bummer.

I have experience with it. You are on the right track. The functional purpose of this deal is hardware to tinker with. In terms of using it to run android or windows it's junk. Ultimately the enjoyment will come from tweaking it but not actually using it.

This could be a good buy for a few patient and technically inclined people who have limited expectations, but for most it will be an exercise in frustration.
I do agree with namelook, being that this is not going to be a too useful device. The only reason I'm getting this is because of what I may make out of the thing. If this ends up being the next TP then great, if not its only $150 out of my pocket so no sweat.

This review was posted early on in the thread. Really, this one and the engadget one are the only ones out there.

oops, missed that page. BTW, why are you still checking this thread? you just said that you didn't want one so what do you hope to gain from being here? this thread is headed for dealtalk, and there won't be much use trying to convince those of us who want to discuss using the product to not buy this product... if, as i suspect, the real reason you're still here (as well as several other threadcrappers) is because you're worried that maybe the $150 tablet was actually a pretty great deal and you just need to see someone complain about it, then by all means please stick around. I'm 100% certain that you will get what you're looking for. I hope it validates you sufficiently.

This tablet has 3 hour battery life...useless....

No support from Viewsonic
Zero community support
This unit is ridiculously slow
You can get an dual-core android tablet for the same price with 3 times the battery life and three times the speed.

To cancel the Order or NOT is the question. CPU benchmarks show the Intel Atom to be really Atomic in power. You can throw 16GB RAM and 256 M4 SSD at it, still it is going to puke especially with windoze.

Return Policy: - What are they selling - Gold Nuggets??

Because I love to see how people that are so insecure about their purchase that they need to go around trying to bully people out of the thread. It's so entertaining when they get so frustrated that their attempts at censorship don't work.

So I just got a charge posted to my account for my order of two. My order confirmation shows my total was $291.32 for two w/o Windows 7 and with the discount code. I was only charged $276.42 by Viewsonic though. Anyone else have something similar happen?
