I have been looking for the best deal on a Windows tablet and came across these guys on Viewsonic's factory store:

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Tablet - $299
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...-10pi.html

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Ready Tablet - $149
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...no-os.html

Viewsonic must be blowing these out, because the cheapest price I could find for the $299 version with Windows 7 pre-installed is $499.99 on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-V...ewpad+10pi

I was able to buy that $39.99 Windows 8 upgrade special from Microsoft before it expired yesterday and was thinking about using that to do a clean install on the $149 version of this Viewsonic 10pi. That would give me a Windows 8 tablet for under $200.

What do you think? Does anyone know of a better deal out there on a Windows tablet?

Well, saw this deal on Sunday, and did not pull the trigger due to almost nonexistent and "bad" review. Thought about this again and decided to try it out as I am pretty patient to any tech "toy", and I think this is a good piece hardware except processor. But I still have ASUS Eee 900A, LOL. I have been seeing this in and out stock at least twice this afternoon (3pm or 5pm ET) but did not catch it. Finally just got one around 7:30pm ET and I think that is the only one available (guess someone cancelled one due to multiple orders?). It sounds more fun to catch one compared to get oneSmilie.

it was OOS since two days ago
I called a friend of mine at Viewsonic to check up on inventory this morning. He said they got a shipment of about 200 in today alone.

One more video of a Dell Latitude ST running windows 8:

Seems to be handling it pretty well at the native resolution.

For this cpu and ram capacity, better install windows XP or ubuntu.

Personally, I would recommend Android Jellybean and you could get a perfect 10-inch tablet which is supporting multicodec video only for $149. However, problem is THAT jellybean which is not sure to be upgrade.

It uses an atom processor; not well suited to android generally; even if it was it's doubtful that anyone will do the legwork to get ICS or JB running on this tablet. Really, folks should drop the idea of using android on this device.

On the other hand, this will run windows 7 or 8 fine with productivity applications. Anyone planning to do gaming or graphics will be unhappy; anyone planning to do email, word processing. spreadsheets, and web browsing will be fine, and at 1.8lbs with a good IPS screen, GPS, bluetooth, 2xUSB, and a touchscreen, it will be way more fun than a similarly priced netbook.

Maybe I'll just throw in here that what the trolls are saying (albeit with their 16-year-old noses turned to the sky) is that they use their tablets for gaming and videos; if those are your interests you'll be disappointed. This is not an ipad or a nexus tablet . Your angry birds will be, at best, mildly agitated, and your starcraft will seem more like a starhobby. Installing photoshop will be about as fruitful as explaining to Travfar that taking pleasure in irritating people on the internet is, in fact, the definition of "trolling." If you're expecting this to run as well and fast as a windows 8 tablet that costs 2-5x as much, you're dreaming. If you're looking for an inexpensive, lightweight, and unique computer for productivity (here's where the trolls start scratching their heads) this is a great option.

One last bit, since opinions abide in this thread anyways: the $149 tablet is an SD; the $300 windows 7 version is not; it really shouldn't be on FP simply because it's in the same OP. At $300 you're getting into new tablet territory; a hundred more and a week or two of watching SD and you can find an deal for a low-end windows 8 tablet. At $150, if you have the requisite geekery to install windows 7, 8, or your linux distro of choice, this is a real opportunity.

Just checked out the dell website; reinforces my point about the $300 tab being mislabeled an SD: for $350 you can get the latitude ST (same processor, GPU, and RAM as this one), except it has an integrated pen (which I think indicates that it has a digitizer layer).

Agreed. I wish I had snagged one for 199.99 back in Nov. 2012.

People have been cancelling. So machines open up.
lots and lots of hate for this tablet. Yeah, it has pretty weak-ass specs, but i did a comparable ebay search for what you can get for 150 bucks and while there may be the odd golden goose thats better in general, most the stuff is really really old and busted in some way for that price range.

Im not going to be playing BF3 on it, i just need it to browse and do some light video and have 2-3 apps open at once. It should handle that just fine.

Ubuntu Netbook release runs just fine on my EEE netbook, as well as Windows XP SP3, but you know what, Windows 8 runs pretty well too.

Same specs in terms of CPU and RAM as Viewsonic tablet.

back in 2009, when this Viewsonic tablet was retailing for $849, I have made the very similar tablet out of the Asus 900HA myself.
I didn't even know Viewsonic tablet existed.
Cut the hole for the screen, removed the keyboard, installed touchscreen - done. I have posted the pictures and guide on the EEE forum.
I've got a special Windows XP for Tablets version installed on this 900HA.

Made quite a few splashes on the Internet, btw

Of course it is not running Android, just XP/Win 7/Win 8 -triple boot.

Works quite well even now.
Too thick for the carputer though.

Oh, ok. And all this time I thought you were just trolling. You're not trolling, you're just entertaining yourself by frustrating other people. Wait....

*** I can't keep adding to the thread (and feeding the troll), so I'll respond here. You win, Travfar. You're totally not trolling; obviously I am. I bought this item and want to discuss it with others that did; you didn't and are providing an essential service to those that might come back by letting them know that they made a huge $150 mistake. So thank you for showing me the error of my trolling ways, and please keep providing your fantastic and helpful posts in this thread. Like I said, you're the winner. Congratulations.
He sure is the winner here on SD. Over 21000 posts. He must live here.

He helped so many people to understand how stupid they are going after $150 Win 7/8 tablet, LOLwavewoot

My Atom 2GB netbook/tablet runs Photoshop just fine.
On Windows 8.
Just tested.

Please don't put "travfar" and "Photoshop" in the same sentencelaugh out loud
