I have been looking for the best deal on a Windows tablet and came across these guys on Viewsonic's factory store:

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Tablet - $299
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...-10pi.html

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Ready Tablet - $149
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...no-os.html

Viewsonic must be blowing these out, because the cheapest price I could find for the $299 version with Windows 7 pre-installed is $499.99 on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-V...ewpad+10pi

I was able to buy that $39.99 Windows 8 upgrade special from Microsoft before it expired yesterday and was thinking about using that to do a clean install on the $149 version of this Viewsonic 10pi. That would give me a Windows 8 tablet for under $200.

What do you think? Does anyone know of a better deal out there on a Windows tablet?

I am glad they did. It will be back though, they realize that all the check4change refreshes are imposing on their servers.
Word. I have three tabs running c4c on their site just for ME. I'm sure there are hundreds hitting it.

Wow, I can't believe I read this whole thread.

I really, really wanted this tablet. The trolls around here keep asking why people are buying this, but for me, the answer is simple: I need x86. I'm a programmer, and as far as I'm concerned, ARM tablets are pretty much just smartphone internals in a tablet casing. They're great for playing games, checking your email, and video chatting with friends, but If I am going to buy a computer, I want it to run programs, not apps. This tablet, while far from perfect, provides the basic hardware foundation from which to do that.

Plus, I run Linux. I have been wanting an x86 tablet for a long time now so that I can put Slackware on it, and I missed the main rush on this deal by a couple of days. If I had known about it, I would have bought four of these things for all of my Linux friends.

But I missed it, so today I spent all day waiting for it to come back in stock. And I finally got one. I'm so excited! I wish I could have gotten more before the page got deleted, but hey, I'm not complaining.

Man, I hope it ships!

Hopefully you'll be able to get Slackware to install on it. So far I am 0 for 3 on Linux distros (though all Ubuntu based). Most recognized the wireless, but none were stable. 12.10 saw 2 wireless network cards and kept disconnecting and reconnecting. 12.04 saw one card, but it was very unstable. Mythbuntu wasn't any better, so it wasn't just related to Unity.

I did run Android ICS from the x86 project on it and nothing works right, but it booted nicely and is really smooth until you try to do something, like connect to a wireless network or play a game.

I finally found a kindred spirit in this forum Smilie I bought this tablet specifically for the exact same reasons that you mentioned - can't wait to load Eclipse!

Mine just shipped this afternoon (Bought it on 02/05). As soon as I get my hands on it (next week at the earliest), I'll be installing Linux on it. I'll be sure to post about my experiences here. Or, if you get yours first, I hope you do the same Smilie

Here is the issue. I'm running windows 8 and so far so good.

One question.........

The on screen keyboard is way toooooo small! I have a feeling it has to do with the gma600 driver. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

Mine is a champ, seems to lock in a few minutes from cold start indoors! The only issue I am a having is that finicky finicky bt/wifi combo. I can't seem to concurrently listen to music over bluetooth and browse the netz. This is under windows 7. Does anybody else have a similar problem? Other than that, this is going to serve as an E-Notebook and I am thoroughly pleased with it.

Installed Win7 last night and everything was good, except wifi connection is unstable. I used al the drivers from orginal CD with the tablet. Anyone got the same situation? Sorry for asking this if I missed any discussion on the same issue.

The driver in the wiki appears to be from windows update and is newer than the one on CD. It appears to be more stable than the factory one.
