I have been looking for the best deal on a Windows tablet and came across these guys on Viewsonic's factory store:

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Tablet - $299
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...-10pi.html

Viewsonic Viewpad 10pi Windows 7 Ready Tablet - $149
http://www.viewsonic.com/us/table...no-os.html

Viewsonic must be blowing these out, because the cheapest price I could find for the $299 version with Windows 7 pre-installed is $499.99 on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Viewsonic-V...ewpad+10pi

I was able to buy that $39.99 Windows 8 upgrade special from Microsoft before it expired yesterday and was thinking about using that to do a clean install on the $149 version of this Viewsonic 10pi. That would give me a Windows 8 tablet for under $200.

What do you think? Does anyone know of a better deal out there on a Windows tablet?

Make sure you update GPS driver thru Windows update after installing the driver from the Viewsonic CD. Viewsonic driver works too, but new one seems to be better, faster cold fix.

Thanks. Great to know. As I said before, I always have patience in dealing with new "toys". I can not believe I was talked out by those nay sayers on that Sunday when the deal was posted. Think about it, its original price tag is at $850, but for sale for 80% off? I just can not believe what those nay sayers were thinking! I am fortunate enough to get one a couple days later.

Funny part is, they were trashing the thread/product while quietly aguiring the tablets and then they had a spirit to come back to the thread and brag about this.

I'm trying to run the Bing map or the Google map app in Metro but both displays blank page only and occasionally blinking the underlying map. Anybody had success running them?

Got Ubuntu 10.04.1 to install with a little help from this:

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareS...rdsPoulsbo

I am still unable to get it to boot without needing to restart lightdm. From initial experience it works well, but the network card keeps going in and out. It doesn't drop but it slows down to basically not working.

Busy running an update now (though slowly because of the network card issue), might try finding a USB network card to see if that works better.

Yea, agree with guys completely. Almost missed the opportunity to get this, but if there's anything that I know about SD is that when you have the SD community backing up a device, it will become an SD. Much love to all the developers out there making this device happen. I can't wait to get my device and work on it.

I got the one w/out windows 7, is there any way to get 7 software at a cheap price?

Took the advice of others in this thread and popped windows 8 on this tablet. Can't believe I was about to settle for 7. Windows 8 runs as well as I need, and I'm not having any of the issues others mentioned in this thread, except one... The top 1 centimeter of my screen does not consistently respond. Using a touchscreen visualizer I can see there's a space between the very top (essentially the top row of pixels) and about a cm down that does not always respond to keypresses. Frustrating because that's a pretty important part of the screen... Anyone have any suggestions? I'm pretty sure this was happening under windows 7 also, so I'm guessing it's a hardware issue. If it's a matter of tightening a cable, and someone can tell me which one, I'll crack this thing open tonight.

Are you seriously still trolling this thread? Wow. I really don't understand you.
Maybe you can just RMA your to get a replacement. I did mine as I have a screen issue. And I got a new one back yesterday. I only shipped the tablet alone (they said so), so I ended up having two AC adapters Smilie because they shipped me a new box.

There is no Linux GMA600 driver. W/o this driver it is useless exercise for the end user. Your experience will not be good. Still useful for the developers I suppose.

Excellent! I'm glad you've got it *mostly* working now.Can you run lsmod and see if the mwifiex and mwifiex_sdio modules are loaded?

I've had a similar experience with an Atheros wifi card on a netbook, and I decided to just live with it. That card seemed to "time out" when there is no wifi activity, so I would have to cycle the wireless interface on/off every now and then.

I will be installing 12.10 on mine, but I'm hopeful that 13.04 will run better on the Viewpad when it is released.

Can you run "grep CONFIG_DRM_GMA600 /boot/config-$(uname -r)"? If memory serves right, the kernel that ships with 10.04.1 is 2.6.xx, and I don't think GMA600 experimental support is present in kernels < 3.x (I could be wrong).

With the amount of tweaking involved in getting Poulsbo vidcards working in Linux, I really don't think the average user should be thinking of installing Linux on this. I advice users to either wait for GMA600 support to mature (which isn't going to be that soon, if at all) or install another OS that has better support for the hardware on this tablet.
